I'm spending a few days on the Slovenian coast. Any suggestions on which city (Piran, Portoroz, Izola etc) is best and what hotel (nice but good value)? I'm hoping to stay on the beach if possible. Thanks very much!!!

Last summer I spent a few days in Portoroz at the Grand Hotel Emona. It's a five star on coast with their own beach. We were there with a group, so the rate might not be the same for you, but it was 80 Euro a night for a double. An UNBELIEVABLE value!!! My mom and I had a manicure, pedicure and massage at their small spa for 25 Euro (total) each. Food was pretty good in their dining room and I know they're working on making it better. There is a water park very close for kids. Oh, and big bathrooms with huge bath/shower combos.

Cricket
Portorocz is the place to stay. There are several good hotels, but the Grand Hotel Slovenia has a complex of 3 hotels in the heart that share an indoor salt water pool. Piran is the jewel, but only 3 miles away and the hotels there are small. Good luck !
