Hotel room/Aptartment Recommendation for 5 in Paris

I'm taking my four kids (ages 15, 13, 11 & 9) to Paris for 2 or 3 nights from April 6th-9th or 10th (depending on return flight). I'm wondering if anyone can recommend a hotel that could accommodate 5 in one room (family room maybe). I know that is remote for Paris but I'm trying to keep the price reasonable. Otherwise, I'm wondering if anyone has a good apartment recommendation for 5 with an elevator (we're coming from skiing and will have five bags). This part of the trip is a total surprise for my kids and even though short, I wanted to get in a few of the basics. I was hoping to find somewhere in the 1st Arr. since major sights are there and it's my kids' first time in Paris.

Thanks, Tamara

There are few rooms in Paris that will accommodate five people. Hotel Marignan has one, but may be difficult to book and will likely be beyond cramped with the five suitcases. Otherwise, you'll need a double and triple, but connecting rooms are not common either.

An apartment for 2, 3, 4 nights would be quite the challenge, especially at this late date. Choosing an apartment requires great care and payment/security deposit policies/procedures are often not convenient, along with check-in/check-out times.

Thanks, djkbooks, for your reply. It doesn't look too promising it seems.
Does anyone know of anything that might work?

With short notice and a length of stay less than a week, I'd look to airbnb.com For example, I just did a quick check and saw https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/482412 that should work for you.

This website has a few suggestions: http://sleeps5.com/destinations/euro.../france/paris/ I cannot personally vouch for any of them. Good luck!

Your problem is that hardly any apartments will rent for only 2-3 days. You can get what you need, but it won't be cheap, that's the problem. For example, you can book an aparthotel which will book for 2-3 nights, but you may even need two rooms there. Or 2 rooms in a hotel, of course, but you'll have to book a big, modern hotel, most likely to get rooms large enough for all that baggage. It isn't the one bag for person, but the fact that you mention skiing implies that you also have ski equipment? Otherwise, I'm not sure what difference that makes. Most people have one bag per person, especially if kids aren't babies.

Here's a website just for your problem (the Citadines they cite are aparthotels).
http://sleeps5.com/destinations/euro.../france/paris/

Please note that many facilities consider a child 12 or older and adult when booking.

The Adagio aparthotels may be the best bet, they are cheaper than some. http://www.adagio-city.com/gb/booking/hotels-list.shtml
The problem is for your dates they only have a couple that fits 5 people (3 adults plus 2 children) that are not in the suburbs -- one in the 18th and one in the 19th arr. The one in the 18th near pl Charles Dullin may be the best bet but it doesn't look available for your dates. That is a fairly convenient location for Montmartre, actually. The others you have to book multiple rooms which is a problem when you only have one "real" adult, as you need someone over 15 yrs in a room, I would think (mentally even if not legally). That's kind of a problem.

The only Adagio I can find for your dates in one apt. is the one at Porte de Versailles, which is a border town with a convention center. It does have a 2 BR apt for 6 people at only 937 euro for those 4 nights (about 235 euro a night). It's near the exhibition center. It won't be as much "fun" as staying in central Paris, but if you are desperate, it will be comfortable, is a good rate. It is pretty much across the street from the Porte d'Issy T2 tram line. You can take that west to La Defense to connect to metro line 1, or one stop east to connect to the Porte de Versailles metro line 12 which runs north into central Paris. You can get bus 80 there, also, which goes over near the Eiffel Tower and then across the river to the Champs-Elysees and, in fact, all the way up to Montmartre.

In short, while not ideal, you could manage.

I find the Citadines properties - at least in Paris - to be really poor value - cramped, pretty Motel 6 level furnishing and accommodation overall not very comfortable. Do not recommend them unless there is absolutely no other option.

apersuader, I also thought of VIP - their properties tend to be reasonably priced and if not posh are at least clean and comfortable, and when I used them service was great. Worth a call.

You can also try www.venere.com. You may find your ideal neighborhood is going to be tough to find a reasonable room but as long as you are relatively centrally located there is good public transportation.

We stayed at the Hotel Marignan a few months ago. It was exactly as advertised, basic, but suited our needs. Our kids are a bit younger than yours though. Our room had a double bed and three singles, with a bathroom , and was on the first floor. The location was great for us. I hesitate to recommend simply because people are so different. For instance most people we know wouldn't want to stay there and would like a bit more luxury. For us though, it was great.

We went back after travelling for a few weeks and stayed on the fifth floor and I wouldn't be so keen on that again, mainly because of all the walking we did around Paris & we were over it at the end of the day.

We fit our bags in but ski gear might be a stretch, and of course it's not in the 1st, but I thought it might be worth chiming in.

Have a great trip.

Thank you all for the replies. I'm going to check all the suggestions out now. Re the ski gear, we are not with our own skis/boots/poles. We'll be renting all that. What I meant re the bags, is that since everyone is bringing ski clothing, each person will have their own suitcase. Otherwise, I'm used to travelling with 2 kids doubling up in a suitcase (so 3 bags in all between kids and myself). I love to travel light(er) especially when I'm bringing four kids with me!

I know I'm asking a lot at this late date, but I'm still hoping for central Paris.

I recommend you expand looking in the 4th 5th and 6th .. which I would put way ahead of the 1st( and I have stayed in all of them) .
I think you may be confused about areas.
Any central arrondissemont near the river is going to be more then central enough.
I also recommend you consider renting an apartment or the Mariganan Hotel.

I also think you don't understand Paris' areas, or haven't seen a map with the arrondisements of Paris marked out. I think you haven't seen a map or you wouldn't have said you heard that most major attractions are there. The first arrondisement is just one very small area of Paris, it doesn't matter at all if you stay there or other areas. In fact, it isn't the most pleasant area to stay IMO, although of course, it would be fine for a few days. It would be like visiting New York City and insisting you have to stay in one particular zip code area as a tourist. Given the extreme demands of wanting a cheap place for 5 in only a few weeks, there is no reason to be picky about which central arrondisement you stay in at all.

It isn't even true that "most" popular tourist sites are in the 1st arrondisement. In fact, there aren't any in it except for the Louvre and Sainte Chapelle.

Check out the Hotel Excelsior Latin on booking dot com. They have one 2-bathroom "suite" available, it has a queen bed, a full bed, a sofa bed and a twin bed if that will work for you. It's only 425 sq feet so a tight squeeze (but not by Paris standards).

...also it's cancellable up to one day before arrival so you could book it, giving yourself some breathing room while you continue to search.

Thanks everyone. Clarkgriswold, I got excited about the Excelsior - thought it was a really good choice - until I read more than one review that there are bedbugs there! Sounded too creepy and turned me right off.

To all, I am taking your good advice and expanding out of the first to other areas, albeit still in the city centre. There were a couple of decent places but they're sold out. I'm still looking...

I've looked up many different sites and found some incredible apartments at reasonable prices. I found a few options at LocalNomad but had not heard of them on Fodors. Does anyone know if they are reliable/trustworthy? As suggested above, VIP seems reliable and I've heard that elsewhere. What about LocalNomad? Are there any others you'd say to stay away from?

thanks again so much for directing me to the idea of apartment rental. It's brilliant. Hotel prices for two rooms is outrageous!

It looks like My Paris Visit has a few apartments that might work for your dates. I've used this agency three times but have never stayed in any of these apartments.

Good luck!

Wow, tracilee, those are all fantastic choices. The apartments are all beautiful - really perfect. Thank you so much for sending. I assume the company is very reliable/trustworthy then if you've used them? (I'm a little concerned about getting there and not getting keys....!)

Also, still wondering about the Local Nomad company - has anyone ever heard of or used them?

thanks again.

There are very few companies that will accept a reservation for 2 nights, even VIP won't do that, as far as I know. So if you find something available you like from some company that fits your dates, there won't be a lot.

I have never heard of Local Nomand but the reviews on Tripadvisor would not inspire confidence by me http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic...de_France.html
