hotel recommendations in the 8th arrondisement

Any suggestions for a great hotel in the $150-$275 price rangein the 8th arrondisement area in Paris. Would like to be near shopping and restaurants.

Le Lavoisier is within your range and it's been written favorably in Travel & Leisure and Gourmet magazines. A few rooms have terraces.

I have stayed at the Napoleon. Its a very nice hotel and they have some rooms in your price range.

Personally, I think there is much better shopping in the 1st. I don't like the Champs at all, Fauborg St. Honore and surronding area is far nicer.

It depends on if you want a full-service hotel like Napoleon or a small-scale hotel like Le Lavoisier. There are advantages and disadvantages to both. For example, Lavoisier has no restaurant. But being a small place the staff would probably remember who you are.

The West End, 7 r. Clement-Marot, will fit your needs and budget. I agree with another poster, the 8th is not convenient for shopping, and the good restaurants are not concentrated in areas that will be an easy walk. We prefer the 1st, near Place Concorde, or the 7th, near the Parc du Champ de Mars. JP

Would the 1st arrondisement area be better than the 8th? What hotels are good in that area. I stayed at the Ritz a couple of years ago, but my husband doesn't want to spend that. He has never been to Paris. Any suggestions? Again, the $150 to $275 price rangefor the hotel.

As I said, I prefer the 1st

Re an hotel, I used to stay at the Jolly Lotti on Rue Catiglione (down the road from the Ritz and close to the Intercontinental.

Its a faded hotel, but I liked it. They have been renovating the hotel for avout two years now, so they make have renewed the rooms. If not, be prepared for some peeling walpaper and scuffed paint. Some people on Tripadvisor did not have very good things to say about it. I always got a very large room for a reasonable price (it should still be in your price range) and I like it for its faded grandure. It certainly IS in a great area.

regards Ger

We like the Hotel Mansart, just off the Place Vendôme and around the corner from the Ritz. It feels very Old Paris, and you should be able to get a superior double for your price range--perhaps even the Mansart room, which overlooks the Place Vendôme. If you will be there in the summer, be sure to ask for a room with a/c, although I think all have it by now.

The hotel's location is excellent: the post office is just a few doors down, with an ATM next to it, and there's a pharmacy right across the street. A number of good restaurants (Le Soufflé, L'Ardoise) are within a few blocks, and the Rue St-Honoré shopping street is just the other side of the Place Vendôme. We stayed there for a week and were very happy with our room and the service.

Try Hotel Brighton, ask for a renovated deluxe Tuilieries view room. They'll give you a room on an upper floor with small balcony and good views of the Tuilieries, Seine, Eiffel Tower. I'm intending to stay there later on and reception staff's been very good about answering questions. Only costs 160 euros/night for this room. If you want continental breakfast it's an extra 8 euros/pp.
Otherwise, try Hotel Therese, modern decor, nice staff. Haven't stayed there but did email them-they are very nice in responding. I did stay at their sister hotel in the 7th, the Verneuil-same thing with the staff. The Therese has quite small standard rooms but deluxe and suites should be much larger but not huge. Brighton's deluxe rooms are reportedly huge. Same views as Meurice and Regina but for lots less.

According to The Unofficial Guide to Paris it has a/c at the Brighton. But I will ask them anyway.

Thanks; some of the reviews I just read seemed to indicate that there was no a/c.
