Hotel Parlamento; Rome

Has anyone ever scored a room at this place? I write to them every year, as much as six months in advance, and am always advised that the hotel is fully booked for my time period. Since my time period is usually March, I find that surprising, especially with the advance notice.

So, how does one manage to book a room there?

Have you ever inquired why they always tell you they're fully book way in advance? It looks like a good place but not so much that it would be fully booked at least six months in advance. There are lots of other nice hotels to try.

Nope, I haven't. I just assume that either they are telling me the truth, or that they don't want me.

About the plenty of other good places in Rome thing: If you have suggestions for hotels that are as highly rated, inexpensive and central as the Parlamento, I will gladly take them.

I don't know of any, and that is the truth. Many other hotels with locations as good as the Parlamento are too expensive, and those that are cheap are often hideous (Marcus, for example). Some, like the Navona and San Pantaleo, get very mixed reviews; so mixed that I'm not willing to try them. So I'm looking, always, for that great room at a great rate.

Last year, got the TeatroPace 33 for 130 Euro. This year, same time, they want 160. Others of our favorites are much higher.

Last week I tried to book the Parlamento for myself for April 2006 and got the reply that they are fully booked.
However, some friends of mine are there right now, they'd booked it perhaps 4-5 months ago at my suggestion, so sometimes things work out.

In a similar price range is the Pension Panda, and the Hotel San Carlo.

I'll be staying there the last week of October - early November. I made my reservations the first week of June. Last time I stayed at Hotel Giardino which was fine. I think would be in a similar price range though not as centrally located. It's in the Trevi/Quirinale area.

San Carlo quoted me 145 for the nights the Parlamento was booked; I made the requests at the same time.

I actually think we may skip Rome this time (been there every year for the last three) and try to go straight to Tuscany, then squeeze in a night in Verona before Venice. I might have to top my own Verona thread to get feedback on the one night stop there.
