I stayed there for 2 nights last Nov. it's in Piazza Garibaldi at the opposite end from the train station. Not really a nice location but I did enjoy watching the Naples news on TV one night showing the Needle Exchange Van in front of the train station and looking out my window and seeing it live. But I really liked my view in '98 from the Cavour Hotel 50M away where from my 6th floor balcony I watched the drug dealer (always dressed all in white) on the street below hard at work except for his night off when a woman with a babycarriage filled it. Well enough about the location. The Hotel is a 3* and not really that bad with a decent buffet breakfast. The staff was OK and except for breakfast I didn't eat at the hotel so can't help you there. The Piazza is very noisey so get a rear room or a top floor room with A/C so you can close the windows/shutters. You do get a nice view in the front of the sunrise over Mt. Vesusius in the morning though. I will probably stay there again because I like being close to the train station, it makes getting around easier for me (train, CS, Metro). But you might want to find a better location though but if you must stay there I wouldn't worry too much about it. HTH Regards, Walter
p.s. The Hotel Cavour is really bad and I'd never stay there again.
My husband has stayed at the Palace Hotel and said it was fine. He is recommending that we stay there when we pass thru on our way to Capri and on to Rome. I have doubts based on what I have read about the location in travel guides. The other reply seems to confirm my concerns. It is, of course, very convenient to the train station and a short taxi ride to the airport. The hotel arranged for taxi service for him.

You can stay at the Hotel Jolly which is the high rise, more modern building just a few blocks from the ferry dock to Capri. Unfortunately compared to most other cities in Northern Italy, Naples gives off and uncomfortable, busy, crazy vibe. You'll want to feel secure once you arrive. Great food and street shopping. Don't miss it before you head off the the ritzy island.

We stayed one night in Sept. at the Continental on the waterfront -- I think it's combining with the hotel next door (can't think of the name right now). Very modern, good buffet breakfast. Had an excellent dinner at Marino's around the corner.
