Can anyone recommend a hotel on the western side of Berlin, preferably on highway #5. Will be driving in but don't want to have to drive into the main part of the city. Ideally the hotel would be near public transportation and not real pricey.
Cheers.

Just south of highway #5 near the ICC Messe (convention center) is the Hotel Ibis Messe. It cost us 88 Euro in May, 2003, buffet breakfast included. (This was their regular rate, not a discounted rate.) There is a free parking lot for your vehicle across the street from the hotel. Also across the street is a bus stop for a line direct to Berlin Zoo Station. About one long block away is an S-bahn station and also a U-bahn station. The hotel is very modern and has decent sized rooms. There are baggage carts available to assist in transporting your luggage. The downside is that there aren't many restaurants in the immediate area, but there are some several blocks away.
