Hotel near Waterloo
I've been to London many times, usually staying in S Kensington. Want to try a new neighborhood. Hotels are incredibly expensive now. There is a new hampton by Hilton on Waterloo Rd at Ufford Street. Price is $237/night with breakfast and free wifi.
Well be there 4 nights mid-May.
Is it an ok neighborhood? Is it seedy? Are there lots of restaurants/ pubs nearby?
Thanks.

>>Is it an ok neighborhood? Is it seedy? Are there lots of restaurants/ pubs nearby?<< It is OK - not a place I'd pick though. It's sort of on the 'wrong' side of Waterloo so it is farther to walk to a lot of places.
Maybe try the Premier Inn County Hall instead . . .
Convenient area -- all the restaurants along the south bank and both sides of the river are w/i walking distance.

Nonsense, it isn't the wrong side of Waterloo, it's only a block down from The Cut, with its multitude of restaurants, pubs, sandwich shops and the Old Vic Theatre. Two minute walk from Southwark Tube. Be sure to have lunch in the Anchor & Hope, a pint in The Ring and dinner in Baltic. Just as convenient as anything along the South Bank, with MUCH less tourists (yet only a 10 minute walk away).

We were blessed for a number of years to be able to stay in a friend's flat over a restaurant in The Cut. It was a fantastic location for a visitor. Interesting, good Underground and bus connections, and just about anything you could want in the way of food.
