Hotel Near Major Tourist Attractions ~ Dublin!
We are a group from US who travel together every couple years to Europe. In May of 2012 we will be traveling to Ireland. Some of our group has been to Ireland before ~ others no. Therefore, 4 people will fly to Dublin a day early ~ the balance will fly into Dublin but immediately catch up with the early arrivers and head to Northern Ireland. Some want to tour Dublin others do not.
So, since I am the unofficial tour guide, I would appreciate your sharing your opinion on what hotel to stay for one night in Dublin. Ideally, want first class hotel with Irish flair (e.g. no Holiday Inns) but must be convenient (walking?) to major tourist "to dos". They will not have a car that first night. Price is factor but not paramount. I have looked at Merrion Hotel and Westbury Hotel. Both look nice but please share your opinion on other hotels and these hotels as well.
Thanks for sharing your expertise.

The FitzWilliam hotel suits your requirements to a T. It's a modern, top-notch hotel, right on St Stephen's Green. 2 steps from Grafton St, and an easy walk to many tourist spots. You couldn't be more centrally-located.

I've stayed at the Westbury and the Shelbourne. Both excellent locations, not too far from each other. Shelbourne is now part of the Renaissance/Mariott Group but retains all its history and period features.
