Hotel Metropolis or Omiros in Athens

We are a group of 4 and will be in Athens in mid-October. We are finding a quadruple room in the Plaka area at these two hotels for the same rate. Our stay will be for two nights. If anyone has enough information to compare the two hotels and make a recommendation or even if you have information one or the other, would much appreciate it. Thanks

Kerouac is going to be mad at me because you didn't ask for other suggestions. We stayed at the Athens Cypria Hotel in a quad. It is ranked significantly higher on TripAdvisor than your two hotels yet is fairly inexpensive.

The quad was just that - four singles and a bathroom. Technically it is not in the Plaka but right beside it. Just about everyone raves about the location.

Thanks colduphere. I'm looking into this now

Brotherleelove: I did consult tripadvisor but both of them are very close in their description and rank so I was looking for some expert fodorite opinion on which is the nicer property.

I looked up the Cypria but unfortunately for my dates the rates are nearly double (80% above to be precise) that of Metropolis or Omiros so not in my budget

Judging from the reviews they're both pretty much equal. The Omiros is a couple of blocks closer to Syntagma Square and the Airport Express Bus stop. The Metropolis is closer to the Monastiraki Metro Station, which is the access terminal nearest the Plaka for the ferry port.

That's too bad about the Cypria. We paid 90E for our quad in late July through booking.com. Oh well. Have a good trip.

shoonye I just looked at the Trip Advisor reviews for Omiros, most were quite favorable for a budget hotel However read the one called "Room can sleep 4" (June 2008) from someone who used their "Quad" room... there were 2 twin beds pushed together, and a single bed with a trundle bend under it, so essentially when trundle was pulled out, very tight space so be aware that it will be jampacked if u are 4 adults. For Metropolis, similarly, best to inquire about room layout, and whether it will be on higher floor (best) and have a balcony; that means it will be front room, which are nicer.

Thanks BLL and TJ for the analysis. Immensely useful. Since we are arriving to Athens from the ferry port Metropolis might be a better choice. Let me check the room layout with them though.
