Hotel La Serre

My family is going to Paris June 26th and we are staying at this hotel. Is anyone familiar with this hotel?
We stayed there 4 nights in early May. It is very basic, good price, clean and friendly. Rue Cler is delightful. The metro is about 3 blocks away with the Eiffel Tower and the RER station for Versailles about 6 blocks. We were very pleased with LaSerre. There are lots of eating places all around. Enjoy.
I just noticed some postings about Hotel Leveque which is across the street from La Serra on Rue Cler. There was some discussion about not being on the street due to noise. Our room at LaSerra was overlooking the street and I felt that was a big plus. There probably was some extra noise but being able to watch the street come to life each morning, stores open, streets being washed, deliveries made, etc, as well as the closing up each evening - all were great to watch from overhead. I several "events" that will be part of my list of travel stories. The crepe place is about a block away and a quiche place is even closer. There is an ATM right outside the hotel door.
Just thought I would add this additional info. Have you seen the Rick Steves tv program, Europe Through the Back Door, probably on PBS, that covers Rue Cler as well as other good things on Paris.

SERRE: 24 bis, rue Cler. Tel: 0147055233. Fax: 0140629566.
Web site: http://www.france-hotel-guide.com/
E-mail: [email protected] (29 rms., 26 w/toilet & bath or shower.) 515F/78EUR double; 650F/99EUR triple. Breakfast (7am-12noon) at 35F pp. Visa, MC, DC, AX. English spoken (Marie-Alice & Jasmine), TV, hair driers, soundproofed, noisy location, reception is one flight up, elevator, 5 flrs. Owned/managed by Philippe & Marie-Alice Beraud. This hotel will be two-thirds renovated by April 2000. Based on what I saw, it will be charming as well as wonderful. Marie-Alice has paid special attention to details like using antique wood furnishings, old-fashioned basins in the bathrooms and themes based on different regions of France. The 5th (Brittany) flr. has pretty blue painted walls & newly carpeted attic rms., #501 (double bed) & #503 (2 twin beds) both face street at 515F for a double; the 4th flr. (Normandy) rms. will have a Louis XVI theme and the 3rd flr. will have a Savoy theme. The 1st (Provence) & 2nd (Alsace-Lorraine) flrs. won’t be ready until Nov. 2000. Their restaurant is 2 blocks from hotel. Marie-Alice stated that she will show you a room before you pay only if she is not busy. The price of the rms. will be the same whether they are new or old, so I suggest you ask for a new room. Métro: École Militaire.
http://www.HelloEurope.com
