Hotel La Palma, Stresa

Hi everyone,

I finally made our reservations for Stresa. I found a real nice hotel on the lake. It is called Hotel La Palma. Has anyone stayed there? Would like to hear your reviews. The reviews on Tripadvisor.com were great.

Great location: right next door to the Hotel Astoria and the Grand Hotel Regina Palace. Upper-floor lakeside rooms have gorgeous views, but there is some street traffic noise. Five minutes on foot to the rail station and/or ferry embarcadero. You do NOT need a rental car. "Old-town" Stresa (with restaurants and shops) also five minutes away on foot.

We stayed there in May '05 and really liked the place. It is bigger than I expected, as are the other "name" hotels. Our room was very good size and even had a nice couch & chair(s?). Our room was on one of the upper floors and it was just the beginning of tourist season, so we weren't bothered by any noise. I forget what we paid, but I usually pick the middle price range. The walk into the center takes 5-10mins. (brisk vs. stroll) and is very pleasant along the lake.

Hi Phyllis, stayed at LaPalma some time ago and loved it. Have not been able to remember the name of this hotel but knew I would know it when I saw the name. So thank you, LOL!!!

Hi everyone,
Thanks a lot for all your kind reviews. We reserved a superior double room with full view of the lake. So it should be great. We are really excited. We will be staying there April 25th and 26th of 2006.

Thanks again,
Phyllis

Hello Phyliss, you will have a wonderful time at Stresa. Do take the ferry to the islands! You will be in such a beautiful area (of course what area of Italy is not beautiful one way or another). Best wishes to you!

Good choice Phyllis also for the lake view room, you will enjoy your stay in Stresa very much. From Easter up to the beginning of October Stresa blooms, not only with flowers but also because of the tourist season and the "settimane musicali" concerts during the Summer. The promenade in front of the hotel (crossing the main street called Via Sempione) is pleasant and will take you up to the imbarcadero (ferry pier) where you'll take the ferries to Isola Bella, Isola PEscatori, Isola Madre, Verbania, Pallanza, Baveno, and some go even up to Cannobio in Switzerland if I remember well. Too bad you only stay 2 nights because the area is surely worth a longer stay.

Hi Batuffolina,

We are spending 3 nights in Zermatt, 2 nights in Stresa and a week in the Piedmont Region. My husband is in the wine business so most of our time will be wine related.

YOu'll enjoy Piedmont too, Phyllis, they have great wines there and the precious truffles of Alba.

We stayed at La Palma three years ago, also in a superior room with lake view and really enjoyed it. The hotel had an excellent restaurant at the time, as well as unbelievable hot chocolate which was served at a bar in the middle of the lobby. There's a nice swimming pool lakeside, just across the street from the main hotel, although since you're going in April, that's probably a moot point.

We hired a "water taxi" and took a day excursion with Captain Marcello to Isola Bella and Isola Pescatori. It was a beautiful day out on the lake, and one of the highlights of our whole trip.

Have a great time!
