Hotel Jeu de Paume on Ile St. Louis or another hotel in Le Marais?

Jump to last reply

Hi - we are going to have 2 nights in Paris in July. Turns out we are arriving on La Fete Nationale and I would like to choose our location wisely so I don't have to rely on public transportation on the night of the 14th.

Stayed last fall at Hotel du Petite Moulin in the Marais and really enjoyed it (loved location and room, only disappointment was breakfast) - but always looking for a different experience. I would love to stay at the Pavillion de la Reine but it is a bit out of budget - want to stay in the $400 range.

I love the looks of the Hotel Jeu de Paume and it is in walking distance of most of what I want to do for this quick trip. However I have only passed through the Ile St. Louis and have not paid attention to the character of the place. It strikes me as a place that people use as a base to go exploring the rest of Paris. Is this an accurate judgement?

I know it is only 2 nights but I love Paris and am re-routing the rest of my vacation to get a little fix so I don't want to be disappointed with my choice.

Would appreciate reflections on the Ile St. Louis as a base, reviews of the Hotel Jeu de Paume (don't seem to be too many on this board), or other hotel recommendations in the Marais (or the 5th/6th but preferably close to the Seine).

Thanks in advance!
