Hotel Help - Rome, Florence, Milan in March
I'll be traveling in italy in March. I arrive March 9th in Milan and will need a hotel there for the 9, 10, 11, 12. I'll check out on the 13 in the morning to continue to Florence (or should i leave sunday night?). I'll stay in florence on the 13 and 14 and then leave for Rome on the morning of the 15. Then i'll be in Rome for the 15, 16, and 17. I'll either leave for Naples on the evening on the 17, or in the morning on the 18. I have a place to stay in Naples, so I am set there.
Also, Upon arrival to Milan, i'm considering taking the train to Como, and staying there for one evening instead of Milan one night.
There are 4 people total in my party, but 2 will probably remain in Milan when Me and my girlfriend head to Como for the one evening.
My question is, how good of a rate can i reasonably expect to find on hotels for 4 people? Should i go through the trouble of switching rooms for the night that only 2 will use the one in Milan?
Can i keep it to $125-$150/night, or is that unreasonable?
I'm not looking for luxury, just functional rooms that we can sleep in.
Thanks in advance for any recommendations. I've checked out a lot of the postings already by searching, but haven't found anything substantial yet.
Thanks!

I don't have any specific recommendations for you; we like Albergo del Senato in Rome, but I think that's more than you're planning to pay.
One thing I noticed about your post. It sounds like you're planning that all 4 of you will stay in one hotel room. Is that your thought/plan? If so, be aware that most hotel rooms in Italy (Europe) are for 2 persons only. $125-150/night PER ROOM is easily doable. Probably for 2 rooms is possible, too, but by that point, you're looking at 1-star hotels or less.

Are you travelling from the U.S.? If so, you're going to arrive after an overnight flight, transfer to the train station, train to Como, train back to Milan , find your way to your hotel...all in 1 day?! It boggles the mind.
Is there a reason you're devoting so much more time to Milan than to Florence and Rome?
In Florence, check out B&B Peterson...it's often recommended here. You can search for it

i'll arrive in milan at noon. yes, travelling from U.S.
so much time in Milan because on Saturday, i'm meeting up with my sister and he boyfriend. i'm not that thrilled about milan, but it's just how it goes. sunday night is my sister's boyfriend's basketball game, so we're going to go to that in Milan. train from milan to como is about an hour...i figured we'd stay in milan the first night, and maybe go to como the second night?
then come back to milan on saturday and meet with my sister.
i check Albergo del Senato in Rome, only thing left is suites, E535/night. looks nice though.
so 150 is almost not doable for a quad. that's ok. just trying to keep hotel spending down as low as possible without staying in a horrible hotel.
thanks for the input

I found big rooms for 4 at the following hotels in 2003. Hotel Alinari, Florence, and Hotel Valle, in Rome. I took 4 granddaughters and told them they would be on top of each other, but each hotel had large rooms for 4. I also booked them from their web sites and received a very good rate at the Valle. I had stayed at the Valle twice before, I personally like the location. We walked to a lot of sites from there, but we do a lot of walking on trips.

That price range is for a quad? That may be a bit tough. Quad rooms are ahrd to find in general but some hotels have 1 or 2 such rooms. In Florence you can check hotel casci which is a moderately priced 2*, but I think it still me be above your budget.

I have no advice for Milan, sorry.
For Florence, check out Il Porcellino Tourist House:
http://www.hotelporcellino.com/
Rates are pretty good there, even if you end up in two doubles if you are two couples for that venue.
In Rome, you may want to try the Hotel San Carlo, as they do have some quads in addition to doubles:

Another alternative for Rome would be Pensione Panda, which has been well-reviewed here on Fodors:
