I will be taking my mother to Paris for 8 days in May this year. I have booked us at the Hotel de Lutece on Ile St. Louis. I have been to Paris several times and studied there as a student years ago. This will be my mother's first trip and it is to be a surprise. I would like her to enjoy her experience. I know the rooms at the Lutece are supposed to be small and I can live with that if they are otherwise "charming". As I have continued my internet research today, I have discovered that the Libertel Grande Turenne is offering a substantially discounted internet rate of 109E for a twin room that has a usual rate of 190E. My rate at the Lutece is 158E. I cannot find any feedback on the Grande Turenne, though it appears well-located in the Marais district. The savings would be substantial but I am reluctant to change my booking from the Lutece without feedback from others who may be more familiar with the Libertel Turenne. My mom is 74 years old, in excellent health and I have no concerns about her ability to walk distances, negotiate stairs, etc. I just want her to have the trip of a lifetime. Feedback would be welcome.
Hotel de Lutece or special internet rate for Libertel Grande Turenne?

the Lutece was the hotel we stayed in on my first trip to Paris and I still remember if fondly and would stay there again in a minute!
I is definitely charming, the entire hotel is lovely, the lobby with the big fireplace and soft comfy furniture. The staff is polite and friendly and very helpful.
The rooms are small, but as a friend who just got back from Paris said, she spent an hour awake in the morning and an hour awake at night in that room, so you don't really need that much room in a hotel for a week. The bathrooms are very big and completely modern.
The location is perfect also.
I would have no problem with your choice, the Lutece!
*PS*
there is a book called Hotels of Charm in Paris (or something like that) and the Lutece is in it.
We stayed at the de Lutece last May and our room was quite charming. We liked the hotel a lot and would stay there again. Staying on the Ile is in itself a very charming experience.
The Libertel Grande Turenne had been recommended to us by a friend's cousin who lives in the Marais, so when we found ourselves walking past, we stopped in. We did not see a room, but the hotel looked quite nice. It is more modern and does not have that French country feel of the de Lutece. However, for a 50 euro per night difference, times 8 nights...well, that's a nice chunk of change you could spend on some other charming experiences. Fabulous food, special bottle of wine, a purchase that might not be made otherwise -- you will have to decide which would make your mother happier.
By the way, it is so wonderful that you are taking your mother to Paris. You will create memories to treasure for the rest of your life. Have a lovely trip!
we stayed at the grande turenne a couple of years ago...it was a perfect location...the room was small, but nicely furnished and very very clean...the fabrics were attractive in the room which made it bright...there is a great asian restaurant next door if you desire...
we would stay there again....i think we paid about $100 at that time...it was a special...there is a parking garage around the corner if you need it...expensive...great restaurants in the area....
ttt
I would definitely say the Hotel de Lutece..........
