Hotel Convenient to CDG and RER

Hello to all

Will be arriving at CDG at 11 am on October 29th and taking a morning flight out next day (October 30th) to Long Beach, CA. Anyone know of a good hotel ($100 to $200 per night) that is convenient to both the airport and RER. We plan to take the RER into Paris just for a quick look around and dinner. But, also want to get to airport in the morning without hassles – such as full shuttles or expensive taxies. Any suggestions?

Note: friend travelling with me – it’s his first time to Europe. So hoping to squeeze in one last place.

Thank you and all the best !

If you are taking a transatlantic flight out of CDG on the morning following your stay in Paris, be at the airport at least 3 hours before your scheduled departure. I fly out of CDG up to 3 times a month and cannot sufficiently stress how important this is. Allow 45 to 50 minutes for the RER leg to CDG. Departing the hotel 4 hours before you scheduled departure is not too early.

Your overall planning will depend heavily upon the time of your <i>morning flight out the next day</i>. If your flight is before 10h00, you will absolutely need to arrange for a taxi pickup. This must be done no later than the night before your departure. If you flight is after 10h00, you will be able to take the RER or a combination of métro/RER to CDG. The cost, no matter from where in central Paris you start, is 9.50€ each. A taxi to the airport will roughly cost 60€. I recommend you avoid any shuttle service, particularly for an early morning pickup where a problem can lead to your missing your flight home.

As for hotels, any hotel in central Paris is accessible by métro/RER to the airport within about 1 hours time.

This question comes up frequently on Fodor's, e.g. the recent thread http://tinyurl.com/nau3syp. Go with the Sheraton, right in the airport and steps from the RER escalator.

For only one day, I'll probably stay right around the airport, also. There are plenty of airport hotels from luxe (Hilton) to cheap (like Ibis). But the Sheraton is really convenient being right in the terminal.

<We plan to take the RER into Paris just for a quick look around and dinner>

Make sure you know what time the RER stops running. We had no idea it stopped around midnight (may have been a Sunday night, I don't remember) and could've had to take a taxi back to CDG. We stayed one night at the Ibis--bare bones, but clean, quiet, and very convenient to the RER and CDG terminals. There are several ibis (Ibises? Ibi) at CDG, so be sure the one you book is closest to the RER and CDG.

Bon voyage
