Hotel Central Saint German

I booked this hotel on Expedia. com. Would have to pay a cancellation fee, but having second thoughts. need a/c. In US stay at Hampton Inns, La Quinta, etc. In other words don't need 4 star. Expedia rated it 3 stars, but on www.parishotels it is just 2 stars. Comments?

There are good comments on TripAdvisor.com, but you might know that already...

It is officially a 3* hotel. Possibly, it has changed and the info on parishotels is out of date, as most French hotel booking sites list the actual official star ratings (unlike some US ones that make them up).

I don't know much about that hotel, and haven't heard from any who've stayed there, but it looks ok to me. I wouldn't book through Expedia ever, as there is no reason to, and I would never prepay hotels myself. Did you get a discount from them? They have their own web site which is kind of cool actually, and you can see the 3* ratings on the outside of the hotel. You could have just booked directly. If you are used to those kind of places in the US, I would assume it is ok.

Another reason it's good to book directly with the hotel is the cancellation policy. There is no charge for cancelling provided you do so within the time period given in their policy. But if you book on Expedia, for example, you're stuck unless you pay the cancellation fee.

Thanks for the info. I contacted the hotel directly and received a positive reply. Since I booked with Expedia and would have to pay a cancellation fee I'll keep my current reservation. Next time I'll do more research first and then book on my own.
