Hotel Cardinal Aix

I have a 2011 Fodor's Provence guide and the Hotel Cardinal in Aix is a Fodor's Choice. However, when I looked at Fodor's online website, it is not even listed. Does this mean that it is no longer a good choice? Has it deteriorated in some way? It still gets decent reviews on TA.

We want to spend our last night somewhat closer to the Marseille airport, but still somewhere with charm and Aix seemed a good choice. (We will be in St Remy before that last night.)

Thanks

We will be staying at the Hotel Cardinal in June, so I am interested to see what replies you get. It is very reasonably priced, and it's in a great area. I went to school right down the street many years ago.

I wonder why it isn't on this website list of hotels when the 2011 Provence book (which I think is the latest one) has it as a Fodor's Choice. We'll probably be there in June also!

This website only lists a smaller number of hotels than the Fodors books for good reason -- the book is for sale, and it necessarily is more complete.

While I regularly post reviews on the hotels listed in the hotels section, there are many, many hotels that are highly recommended by board members in the forums that aren't in the books, and many of us have complained that they aren't listed. Again, this is a commercial enterprise.

I read the reviews both on this website and in these forums, and I buy the book so I get as much information as I can, then narrow down my choice.

The fact that it is listed in the book, recommended on TA, but not on this website should not make you think that the review in the book is no longer valid.

We stayed at the Hotel Cardinal in 2010 and were quite satisfied -- can't speak to any changes since then, but I doubt much would be different. We stayed in the annex to the hotel, which is about a half block I think from the main building, so I can't speak to the rooms there, but our suite was very nice. It consisted of a large room with the bed on one side and opposite was a sitting area with a couch, coffee table and two chairs. The tv was a good sized flat screen. The bathroom was not huge, but a comfortable size and very attractively appointed. There was a separate room with a kitchenette and a round dining table (although as I remember I don't think that it was really set up for full-blown cooking -- more just to reheat things and refrigerate any food you bring to the room). The main room was traditionally decorated. We enjoyed our stay. The price as I remember was reasonable -- maybe around $120.00.
