Hotel Bellevue Syrene or Hilton Sorrento?

Hotel Bellevue Syrene or Hilton Sorrento?
Hi there, Which would you pick of these rooms? Hilton room is Bay view - does anyone know how far of a walk to shops and restaurants from Hilton? It looks pretty and also does anyone have a fax number for Bellevue Syrene they are not responding to e-mails and fax that is listed is out of service. Thank you!

Bellevue Syrene has a much more central location than the Hilton. I can't comment on rooms, since I haven't seen them. We stayed at the Tramontano,also a 4-star, which is just up the block from the Syrene, and I would highly recommend its water view rooms.

The Bellevue Syrene rooms which we had were not exactly as pictured on the website although they said they would be. We had two rooms at the top of the part of the hotel we were in. They were more modern and streamlined decor than the website pictures - nice, but not exactly what we expected. We did have balconies with spectacular views. If you have a room with a balcony, do not close the sliding door all the way if you go out on it since they do not open from the outside - at least ours in each room did not. I got stuck out in the hot sun for several hours until the kind gentleman next door saw me ( I must have looked just about ready to pass out!) and called the fornt desk to let me in. My sister stayed at the Tramontano and had a large, nicely decorated room with a garden view, no balcony. Both hotels are within easy walking distance of restaurants, shops, etc.

I have been e-mailing the Bellevue Syrene trying to find out their cancellation policy [couldn't find it on their site]. I have sent 3 e-mails, short and to the point, but they won't answer that question. Their replies are always exceedingly polite---they even wished us a happy Easter. Should I give up on this hotel for September?

I also asked them that and gave them the dates and they did not respond at all that is why i am questioning? To the lady that stayed at the hotel were the ceilings pictured as on the website or was it just a basic hotel room?

Hello quetzal1958, I think you mean me.
We had basic ceilings in our room which consisted of a double bed and 2 twins which were in an area with a slanted ceiling. The room was nice, but not as shown on the website. It had more of a contemporary feel to it, without the lush drapery fabrics and antique furniture.

Tip on the balcony rooms. Request room that doesn't have concrete dividers between the balconies There are 2 floors I'm sure that don't and believe 8t's 5th and 6th but not certain. Our room had the conrete dividers and we had to stand and peer around dividers for panorama. also the balcony wall was solid concrete and too high, again requiring one to stand to see over the wall. Disappointing in that we had table and chairs on balcony but couldn't see anything unless we stood.

The Bellevue Syrene is by far the better of the 2. I think the Tramantano is a bit hagard. Also, unless things have changed, they are not air conditioned. September will be hot.
We stayed at the Bellevue 3 times and each time it was fabulous. Each time we had a terrace/patio. The first stay tho, we had an area that was larger than some people's yards. It was at least 20 feet long. I had my husband drag the bed out there and we ended up spending the entire evening outside. Drinking wine under the stars can be quite magical.
The bay views were gorgeous though, all 3 times. I love everything about the hotel and would not stay anywhere else. Before our 1st stay at the Bellevue, we had stayed in the Bristol, and Tramantano. The latter was nice but it just cannot compare to the Bellevue. (IMHO)

Just for the record ( although you seem to have your heart set on Bellevue Syrene) I feel compelled to point out that the Tramontano is air conditioned and is certainly NOT hagard.My husband still rhapsodizes about our family visit last July. ALthough our rooms were nothing special, they did have fine beds, excellent air conditioning, and enormous terraces overlooking the Bay of Naples. Also, as I remember, they were about $75/night cheaper than the Bellevue Syrene.

quetzal1958: we also stayed at the tramontano because it was cheaper and thought the same thing...the view was spectacular and the room just so-so, but not tattered at all- our bathroom was huge if that matters to you. the breakfast was outstanding and i would go there again unless the bellevue syrene was the same price. 75 euros is a big difference if it is for several nights...you might just go on their website and consider it....have fun wherever you end up. sorrento is really a nice place to visit...

The Bellevue Syrene finally did send me their cancellation policy. Cancel before 7 days for no penalty. For no shows there is a penalty equal to the price of a room for 3 nights. You'd think that they would figure that if they didn't hear from you within 24 hours they could get the room rented out, at least during the high season. They were very polite about answering my e-mails.

Quetzal et al... We stayed at Bellevue Syrene in September, had a room facing the water with georgous view, nice shutter doors that folded open (no slider with locking issues)on the fourth floor. I have many pictures of the room (we loved it) for anyone who wants to see...I'll e-mail 'em to you. Bathroom was good sized and seemed brand new. Complimentary Champagne awaited us on return our first night. Staff was wonderfully helpful. Hotel's location is excellent for walking to just about anyplace in Sorrento. Nice "beach" area too. We sunned in September there. Don't know about the other hotels, but would definitely return to BS everytime in Sorrento. Trish [email protected]

Well, your original question asked about the Hilton v. Syrene. I have just returned from a fabulous 3 night stay at the Hilton. The views are fantastic and the pool is lovely. There is a lemon grove on the hotel grounds. The staff was very friendly. I can't wait to return! We booked an executive room which included access to the executive lounge with breakfast every morning and snacks all day with booze. The only drawback was a 10-15 minute steep walk to the main shopping/eating areas. But this doesn't seem that different from most hotels on the Amalfi Coast. You might also want to check out your hotel options on tripadvisor.com. It compiles reviews also. That is unless you are already on vacation in lovely Sorrento!
