Hotel Banville and the 17th
We will be staying at Hotel Banville for 3 of our nights in Paris. I haven't stayed in this area before; it looks very residential. Are there some restaurants in the area or will we have to catch the metro and go somewhere else for dinner? Any interesting sites you might recommend in that area? Thanks.

I think that area may be a center for business / conventions, so there certainly should be good restaurants in a walkable distance. One direction is to ask your hotel concierge for recommendations, perhaps email for a few in advance so you can research them a bit.
Another direction is to check in the Zagat guide; also there is <u>Relais de Venise</u>, which is one of the 'l'entrecote only' places: steak,frites, salad, that's it (very popular).
There aren't really any sights in the 17th, but just bordering it is the lovely Parc Monceau and Musées Nissim de Camondo and Cernuschi.

We've stayed at Hotel de Banville. There are plenty of restaurants nearby and the front desk staff is very helpful with recommendations.
We really enjoyed our meal at Bistro du 17eme, just off Place Marechal Juin. It's a casual, neighborhood-type place (although I think it may be part of a chain) with better-than-average food at quite low prices. But the thing that impressed us most was the service--you almost never saw a waiter, you just felt a breeze whoosh by your table and, voila, your food or drink had arrived. So the atmosphere was more hurried than leisurely, but we still enjoyed it. (fwiw, we seemed to be the only non-French in the place)>

Thank you for answering the question, Elle, and for the restaurant recommendation. This will be the beginning of our stay in Paris so low key, inexpensive restaurant suggestions are what we need. Save our splurge for later in the week.
