The Square, modern hotel in a great location
The Admiral, interesting converted warehouse with all it's quirky rooms, in a good location
D'Angleterre is in process of being renovated, might be open by June 2013, I would imagine it will be pricey though
Radisson Blu Royal Hotel, interesting design features and central location.

I too was looking for accommodations in the spring. I looked and looked and looked and looked. I was either turned off by the price or the location. I didn't realize Copenhagen was so expensive! Just when I would find a hotel I liked I looked at the locale and it would be way out of walking distance. I read the comments of hotels in the Vesterbro area and many said, 'seedy neighborhood' and I want us to stay on the City Hall/Ströget/Nyhavn side anyway.

Since we have several trips planned in 2013 I opted for a budget place, without being a hostel , for our family of four. Budget and basic but received only high reviews and ratings on Trip Advisor and Booking.com. The name is Hotel Bethel Sjömanshem Copenhägen. Located in Nyhavn, right on the canal.

We booked a family room (corner overlooking Nyhavn canal), with private shower/wc, television, and basic basic furnishings, breakfast included. Cost- 1045DKK per night. That is for four persons. The other doubles range from 845-945 DKK per night. (In US dollars that would be starting at 150 USD per night). The do not have parking but on the street.

Like I said, we have other trips planned so instead of overspending in Copenhägen we can spend money saved on food and entertainment instead.

I've never seen Copenhagen spelt with an umlaut, what language it that, since it's not English spelling nor Danish (ä is not a Danish letter) nor Swedish, not even German.
Same with Ströget which in Danish is Strøget and Sjömanshem which is Sømandshjem.

Sorry, Copenhagen was a spelling error and I m using improper Swenglish- Swedish and English plus using a Swedish keyboard, iPad and typing quickly.

Ströget and Sjömanshem are indeed Swedish. Some words in the Nordic language are similar and the o a line over in Danish is replaced by the ö in Swedish.

Another option is the Hotel Mayfair (Clarion Collection). Seems to run about $200 per night around that time.

What somewhat mitigates the cost is that they include both breakfast (pretty good) and a light dinner (good soups and bread, and usually small plates of a number of other options). It's a buffet and can be a bit crowded.

Rooms are nice, staff was friendly... only a couple of blocks from Tivoli Gardens... and they had free parking if you have a car.

So it looks like they are looking at around $200/night. At that price, I would try the following:

1) Bid on Priceline for a 4-star hotel in Copenhagen. The Marriott is currently the only 4-star that comes up. You can spend as little as $100 per night. I'd start at $100 and keep increasing until accepted, up to the $200 you would spend on the other hotels.

2) If I wasn't going to go with Priceline, I'd go with the Adina, which is coming in at $203 for your nights. It is by the cruise ships, so a 10 to 15 minute walk into the center, but it is a nice hotel.

3) If I wanted to save money, I'd look at the Wakeup. Small, but functional rooms. A bit outside the core, but not unwalkable. New hotel from a good operator. Looks to be going for $160 for your dates.

If they have their heart set on the Andersen, the location isn't bad. Reasonably convenient, with ready access to the train station. The section of Istegade it is on isn't the most picturesque part of town. It is safe, but right near the homeless shelter and a few sex shops - there will be quite a few drunks stumbling around.

I have stayed at the Hotel The Square and have a future reservation there for Sept 2013. It is nicely located in the heart of Copenhagen, near Tivoli Gardens, the Strøget, walkable to the Train Station if one has no mobility issues. Price will certainly be lower. Good luck!

I haven't stayed in Hotel 27 since it opened, but I stayed in it before it was renamed and renovated, and its location is perfect. Often they have very good deals, and it is a 3* hotel.
