Hote/Apt in Lisbon in Chiado or Bairro Alta

Looking for a central location for 3-4 nights towards the end of July. Will be traveling with a toddler, so baby friendly is important. MIght go to Sintra one day and will be taking metro to airport so proximity to transportation is important as well. Pluses would be a nice view, comfortable beds, washing machine (if its an apartment) and cafes/bakeries very close by. Any suggestions? Options I'm considering are Hotel Santa Justa, Lisboa Carmo Hotel, Chiado 16, Design Chiado Flats..

Look at Casa Santana apartment offered by www.visitingPortugal.com. Owners are American ex-pats and very responsive to emails.

Last year I stayed in the Cais do Sodre neighborhood, in an apartment on Rua do Alecrim, and I really enjoyed the location for sightseeing convenience and ambience. Not as touristy as the better known neighborhoods, but right near them. (Apartment is no longer on the market as a vacation rental.)

I just noticed that the Guardian did a feature on the neighborhood this May. It highlights many of the things I would also highlight in the neighborhood:

Depending on where you stay in Chiado you can be literally two steps from the Metro. The streets begin to get quite steep in the BA.
Also there are always waiting taxis in the square so getting to and from the airport is very easy.
A taxi to the airport would only cost about E15 so you might consider that with a toddler.
Have a wonderful time in Lisbon.
FYI. It can be quite hot in Lisbon in July so for your comfort you might consider an apartment with a/c.

This apartment is apparently in Chiado on the edge of Bairro Alta - right on! A regular Fodor's poster really liked it earlier this year
