Hot, Hot, Hot

We have just returned from a fortnight in Rome, our ninth visit to the Eternal City. The challenge on this trip was the incredible heat but despite this we still managed to experience some amazing sights - Monte Testaccio, Domus Aurea and Quirinale Palace to name but three. Afternoons spent in the air conditioned apartment was the key to surviving the extreme temperatures........alongside lots of grattachecca!
We had amazing meals too - there are lots of interesting new openings in the city alongside old favourites.

What a wonderful trip report! I envy how well you know Rome. We stayed in Monti for four nights this past May and will be there again a few nights this coming May. I've bookmarked your blog for future inspiration. I am excited to try Brocoletti and, of course, Fatamorgana quickly became a favorite spot for us. And thanks for a restaurant suggestion near The Beehive. We hope to spend a night there before taking the train to Umbria.

Caenis, thanks for the great pictures of the Domus Aurea. Could you please tell me how/with whom you booked your tour?

Hi Colonna
We booked through Co Op Culture

You have to book by telephone rather than online but it is straight forward

Caenis, from reading your trip report, I was struck by how much ground you covered each day. Do you mostly walk from place to place or do you use public transport a lot? We took several metro rides and used the tram to get to/from Trastevere one evening, but we didn't tackle the bus system. We generally love to walk but navigating Rome was challenging. How do you do it?!!!

Hi Indy,
A combination of both. We love walking - you see so much more. When I planning the itinerary I use the ATAC site and have the ATAC app but 'on the ground' I prefer the Probus Rome app for real time bus arrivals.

Adelaidean - thank you so much for your comment. We love Rome and want to share this

Thanks for the report. I really enjoyed reading it although I hated the title We'll be there in about 10 days and I am praying (as in lighting candles and making novenas lol) that there will be a cold spell!

Actually, Caenis, Rome was never on my bucket list. Always seemed too crowded for my taste. So your blog kind of warmed me to it a bit; as it is, we are planning our first trip to Italy (north) next year, and I've since been checking out ideas for a southern Italy itinerary at a later stage.
Thanks again for posting it.

Great blog! Thanks for sharing. We had our first visit to Italy last month and besides the blistering heat, we had a truly fabulous trip. We visited several cities, but Rome was maybe my favorite. Your blog showed me that there is SO much more yet to see and we will definitely go back to the Eternal City!

I prefer not to punish friends and family on Facebook with bucket loads of photos, so like yourself, I kept my own travel blog so people could check in, voluntarily, to see what we were up to on the trip. If you are interested in seeing what a fellow "blogger" put together, here is a link to my blog: https://jonestravelblog.wordpress.com/

Once again, thanks for posting this and happy travels.

Thank you for your kind words evarcht. I now have serious blog envy as yours is so beautifully put together. I am also in awe of how much you packed in to each day, especially in view of the heat.
Zenfoodist - you may not get your wish for a cold spell but I think it may have cooled down a little. Have a wonderful trip.
