I vote for Prague! It is a gorgeous and romantic city. Perfect for a honeymoon. Also, the main tourist area is relatively compact, so you could see a lot in the time you have. Vienna is nice too, but to me its just slightly less charming than Prague, perhaps because it is a bigger city. Split is probably the least interesting of your 3 choices, as there is less to see and do there. And Dubrovnik is fabulous, so I'm sure you'll have a nice time there. Happy travels!

Second vote for Prague. I actually am not a big fan of Prague, but I think it would be a good weekend destination for a couple on their honeymoon. It has a romantic quality that was wasted on me since I traveled there solo. It's an easily walkable city, lots to do, and the weather in May should be good. Good luck!

I haven't been to Croatia, but I agree that Prague has a more romantic feel than Vienna. Vienna's beautiful, but for me it's a grand, imposing, imperial majesty whereas Prague has more of an organic charm.

We live in Vienna, have visited Prague twice, and have not been to Split. I agree with gwan, Vienna is a beautiful city, and we've found hidden places that are indeed romantic and charming, but I would choose Prague over Vienna for a honeymoon.

I know all three cities. In fact for my honeymoon I would go from Dubrovnik to Montenegro. I would find Dubrovnik - Vienna/Prague a bit jarring and would perhaps lose some of the honeymoon momentum.

Even rare for anyone truly honeymoon lasts a month, this is a journey that will linger in your memory for life, so that's why I make sure to be unforgettable ... I suggest you stay in Dubrovnik. By day, enjoy the beautiful beaches and sparkling blue sea Lapad, and surrounding islands, evening walks and local cuisine caterer who prepares the best recipes of fish. Cultural rises in numerous museums and the Dubrovnik Summer Festival.

I have been to all of the cities you are considering and would suggest Prague. I saw all I really wanted to see of Split in one day and didn't find it very romantic. Vienna is beautiful but grander and more imposing that Prague.

You can take a boat from Dubrovnik over to Lokrum Island too. It is a cooler respite from the chaos of Dubrovnik.

I definitely would not spend 3 days in Split so the choices would be between Vienna and Prague which I'm finding to be a difficult decision. The responders on this thread seem to be in favor of Prague but my vote goes to Vienna as I think it's a more joyous city than Prague.

You can always do a day trip to Split from Dubrovnik.

Are you flying into Dubrovnik and flying home from the other city? I was confused about your statement: "found that we could travel to Vienna, Prague or Split from Dubrovnik for the same amount of money as our flight to and from Dubrovnik only".

I think it will be too cold to swim in May.

THE OP has not been back, so not sure if there is point to this, but here goes.
Late May should be okay for swimming. Why not stay on some of the islands off Dubrovnik?
ps Bus to Split is more like 4 hours, certainly not 2.
I'd rent an apartment just above old town for the amazing views.
