Honeymoon in Italy: Into Venice, Out of Milan

Jump to last reply

My husband and I are considering a honeymoon to Italy in September of this year. I've been to Italy and Europe numerous times, but it's been a while and my husband has never been at all! Most of my trips have been from the East Coast and I'm now flying from Seattle.

I discovered that an open jaw into Venice and out of Milan is less than half the cost of an open jaw into Venice and out of Florence. I'm looking at leaving Fri August 28 and returning to Seattle on Saturday, September 12.

Husband would like to see Venice, Florence (both of which I've been to) and Cinque Terre (which I've never seen).

Looking at the map, it makes some sense to do some sort of itinerary like: Venice, Bologna, Florence, Vernazza, Milan. Note that I would only plan for 2 nights max in Milan - it's not really on my list for this time unless it would be a crime for me not to give it a little time. For Florence, I have a small tolerance (but he really wants to see it). I would personally prefer to show him a little bit of Tuscany which I think he'd love (especially being a Montana boy and with a soft spot for the countryside).

I'm more of a slow traveler and would prefer to spend a week in Cinque Terre and a week in Tuscany. But being this is the first trip to Italy/Europe for the husband, I completely understand his desire to see more. I just need to figure out a way to have a reasonable balance of touring vs enjoyment. Staying in a place for one night only is definitely not my style. I'd be happiest moving not more than every 3 nights but that will be up for discussion.

Any immediate recommendations coming to mind for flight itinerary (into Venice, out of Milan)? Economy plus on BA right now is about $2k into Venice and out of Milan which I think is quite reasonable. Husband is 6'5" so that extra leg room is going to be worth it. I also tried into Venice and out of Florence and the price jumps to $4500 for premium economy on Delta. No thanks!
