We are in the early planning stages of honeymooning in Ireland in May 2010. We love to hike and have looked a little at the national forest areas. Also enjoy coutryside, don't care to spend a lot of time in the city, but would like to see history, museums if it is a must see. Have to visit the breweries. Please give your opinion on hiking in Ireland. Plans are to spend 14 days flying in from United States.

I couldn't help but think about a couple from Galway who had planned their honeymoon to the US (in San Francisco). It was 11 Sep 2001 when they left Newark's Liberty Intnl (EWR). Their flight was diverted to Grand Rapids, Michigan where they spent their Honeymoon. I met them on their flight back to Shannon from Newark on 21 Sep.
I hope no such thing happens to you!
My Physician went on a Group Bicycling tour of the West of Ireland (Donegal, Sligo, Mayo, Galway, & Clare). She said it was wonderful. Sorry, I can't give you first hand advice. I'm too old and feeble for that; but I love to Golf on Ireland's Links Courses. I play the less expensive ones.
Thank you Nedsireland for the bit on the cycle tour, I bet it was beautiful and I'm sure the greens are the same. We're not golfers but do admire beautiful courses.

I always check her site for tips on traveling to Ireland. While I have been 8 or 9 times it has not been for hiking. I think the Connemara area might be one area for good hiking. Try this site also:
