Honeymoon in Denmark

Hi,

We're planning to spend the first week of November in Denmark for our honeymoon since neither of us have ever had the chance to visit. At this point, we're leaning toward picking a hotel in Copenhagen for the entire trip and doing day trips out of the city. So, I have a few questions.

1. Can anyone recommend a good hotel for honeymooners? We want something centrally located priced at about 3 stars. I've been looking at the DGI Byens Hotel since it looks like a fun place to stay, but I'm just not sure.

2. Is it reasonable to assume that we can take day trips out of the city?

3. We don't have to stay in Copenhagen. In fact we'd love to see more of Denmark Can anyone recommend other areas of the country that would be fun to visit in early November?

Yes.

Look up Roskilde and Frederiksborg.

You might check out the 71 Nyhavn in Nyhavn. I stayed there just after Christmas through New Years this last year. I loved the hotel and see if you can get breakfast included. The breakfast buffet is great. One word of warning. If you check Trip Advisor..reviews of this hotel are all over the map and I finally figured out that it depends what part of the hotel you are in. I would ask for a room in the newer part of the hotel, on the second or third floor...a room that can be reached from the elevator that's directly off the lobby. There is another section of the hotel that you reach from an elevator down the stairs just off the diningroom/bar area. It seems that these rooms are smaller and not as nice as the rooms we had. My room was a good size, plenty of closet space, room to walk around in the room and a huge modern bathroom all in marble or granite tile. The rooms DO have low ceilings because all the buildings in Nyhavn used to be warehouse/office spaces. It's a great area of Copenhagen to be in. Lots of restaurants, right on the canal, very close to the square where the metro and buses are. The big department store, Magazine is also on the square and it's the start of the Walking Street. We, of course were there over the holidays, so everything was really festive looking. We took the 99 bus to Malmo, in Sweden for the day, and had a fun day just relaxing, shopping, and eating. The buses run every half hour. The last one left Malmo back to Copenhagen at 7:30 I think, but of course you would want to check a schedule. Takes an hour. It was easier and cheaper to use the bus, rather than taking the train.

I love the three star Hotel The Square, on Radhuspladsen and around the corner from Tivoli. Nice uncluttered design, reasonable prices, great central location, friendly service and sparkingly clean and operated by the same group as the equally nice four star 71 Nyhan hotel recommended by crefloors.

Do ask for a kingsize bed, though. They sometimes feature double beds consisting of two very narrow single beds - not what you'd want on a honeymoon, I presume.

Hi Jenn,

I just stayed at both the DGI Byens and The Square. If you are uncertain which to choose definitely go for The Square -- it was far better than the DGI Byens in all aspects, and above all in location.
Enjoy your trip!
