Honeymoon ideas?

For our honeymoon, my fiance and I are taking a Rhine River Christmas Market Cruise. We'll be disembarking in Basel on Dec 26 and are planning on making out way to Paris for New Year's Eve, before flying home on Jan 1. This is a very ambitious plan, since neither one of us has ever left the States before.

We're still doing our research, but right now, we're thinking of spending at least a day in Basel, heading to Luscern for an ice cave tour, and then going to Paris to take in the sights. Does anyone have any ideas for stops we should make along the way? We'd also appreciate any suggestions for something special to do on New Year's Eve.

Thank you so much!
