Hi all!

My fiance and I will be going on our honeymoon next September. We're trying to finalize where we want to go and was looking for some feedback on this itinerary for the 12 or 13 nights we'll be in Italy. Please keep in mind we've both never been to Italy before, and we don't have that much of a desire to explore Rome.

Day 1-Arrive in Rome and private car to Amalfi

Day 2-5: Relax, explore Amalfi/Capri

Day 6: Car to Naples train station to take train to Florence

Day 7-8: Explore Florence

Day 9: Day trip to Tuscany wine region

Day 10: Explore Florence

Day 11: Train from Florence to Venice

Day 12: Explore Venice

Day 13: Early AM flight from VCE home

Some questions regarding our trip that I'd love you experts to comment on:

1.) Are we spending enough time in Venice (approx 1.5 days)?

2.) Thoughts on our time in Florence? Is it too much?

3.) Is it worth it to extend the trip about 2 days to go anywhere else? We're not visiting Cinque Terre or Pompeii, and we're unsure if this is a mistake.

Any thoughts would be great. THANKS!

I think you have a nice plan! If you could add 2-3 days I wouldn't add anywhere else. I would add the time to Venice because I think you are cutting that short.

About trains - booking well in advance can snag limited in number discounted tickets for a specific train on a specific date and I think non-changeable non-refundable except for heavy fee- book your own at www.trenitalia.com - also check first class as sometimes the discounted price may not be that much more than the cheapest available 2nd class ducat- for general info on trains in Italy: www.seat61.com (adroit info on booking discounted tickets); www.ricksteves.com and www.budgeteuropetravel.com.

For time you have your itinerary is nice - ideally a day more in Venice to take boat rides to islands or get off the beaten path.

Chianti-en-Greve is a famed wine district close to Florence - can take buses there and visit several wineries in or near town.

Just curious as to why not at least the first night in Rome so you can enjoy more the car transfer - you could stop by Pompeii for a brief look as the car I believe would pass by it or could.

If you can add two more days, I suggest you do it. You won't regret having spent more time in Italy!

I'd add an extra day to Venice, and one to Rome.

You might be surprised by Rome. There's a reason so many people return there over and over again.

I think this looks like a good itinerary although I might trade one of the days in Florence for an extra day in AC/Capri.

My husband and I spent four nights in Positano and three nights on Capri this past October to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. We had been to both places for a day each off of cruise ships so knew we wanted to return. We enjoyed Positano (stayed at L'Ancora) and absolutely, positively LOVED Capri (stayed at the amazing Capri Tiberio Palace). So I urge you to linger in those places.

And if you stay in Capri before transferring to Florence, you can do as we did and take a ferry, short cab ride and then train to Florence.

1.5 days for Venice is, for me, indeed little. It is the most romantic city for honeymoon. Even if you just walk around the center and the main bridges, it takes 1.5 days already. I had 2 days there and I didn't want to leave it at all.

But then again, I don't want to cut time from any other destinations in your trip - they are all great towns. Maybe you can move 0.5 day from Florence to Venice -Venice will not disappoint you!
