Honeymoon accommodations near Chanai, Crete

We're planning to spend the first five nights of our honeymoon on Crete, flying into Chania at 10:15 pm after two full days of flying. We're looking for a quiet, scenic, romantic spot to unwind and explore western Crete by car and foot. We're a couple in our early 40's. Our budget is around $100/night. We're debating whether to stay in Chania or in a town just outside and are looking for suggestions.

We like the idea of being within walking distance to local cafes and a scenic town to explore on foot as well as being off someplace quiet and beautiful where we feel like the island is all our own. Wondering best way to get a balance of both. Would you say Chania is a slow-moving, relaxing city where one could unwind or would a small town nearby be better?

Are there quiet places to stay in the historic part of Chania? If so, are there places you'd recommend? We're considering the following but are concerned about noise and having a comfy queen size bed.

Are there quaint towns just outside of Chania where we could walk to a sandy beach or little cafes? We're considering the following but aren't sure what's within walking distance:

The other caveate is we're hoping to book accommodations with 100% cancellation policy within 7 to 21 days in case my mom's timeshare comes through at the last minute which would allow us to stay in Rethymnon for free for the week. Timeshares are not our preference but free can't be beat!
