Honeymoon - Capri or Amalfi Coast?

We are planning our honeymoon to include 4 days on either Capri or the Amalfi Coast. It will be the end of our trip and we look forward to low key pool time etc? We are looking to splurge but not spend the rest of our lives paying for it. What are your recommendations? Thanks

Capri is a little more isolated so that might be preferable for a honeymoon. However, we stayed at San Pietro on the Amalfi side and it was spectacular. (Although, it's quite expensive.)

Hi Moonriver,
Congratulaitons! In May we stayed on Capri for three nights at Hotel Mamela and it was very nice. We also stayed in Ravello at the Palazzo Sasso. It was fabulous (but it could break the bank so to speak). Both of these places have websites. There are of course other hotels which are good there and personally I do not think you would go wrong with either the Amalfi Coast or Capri. I do think for a honeymoon I might choose Capri. Ira has asked you a good question--budget? After you put a limit there, you can search here and get personal recommendations. Good luck! One other thing--where would you be coming from? You can take the ferry to Capri directly from Naples. Amalfi coast would probably include train, car and driver, bus or combination.

Hi again,
Well, I did not spend that much on any of my rooms. If you want a quiet, beautiful place with a luxury hotel I recommend the Sasso in Ravello and you can surely have a good room for your price. Look at their website, www.palazzosasso.com and browse. We had a queen seaview room and loved it. The room was small but had a real balcony. If you desire a balcony (not a french balcony) you will have to request that and tell them it is your honeymoon. Click on reservation and then prices to see what you can get. Antonio is the mgr and was wonderful.
In Capri the Mamela was very nice but our room with a sea view (not a suite) was around $350 I think. You might want to check caprionline and look at other hotels.
If you do not get much response on this post you could repost with a definite request for "honeymoon" hotels wherever you decide to go.

I think that both places are wonderful. However capri might be less stressful. If you're on the island and want to visit one of the other towns you'll be able to take a boat/ferry. It's a much better option than driving! You'll also get to exprience capri without the day trippers. We onlt spent the day on Capri and I can't wait to go back. The island has all the nightlife, shopping, food, and nature that anyone could want.

I would suggest Le Sirenuse in Positano, we spent 5 nights there in August and thought it was fabulous. We also spent 3 nights in Capri at Luna. We enjoyed Positano much more than Capri. Positano was wonderful and Sirenuse was outstanding. You will be treated like royalty at Sirenuse and it will be an experience you will never forget! Good Luck

At $800/night you can easily afford to go top of the line, only a few of the most exclusive of the exclusive are going to be off limits.

A big key that you don't mention is when you are going. If it's in the middle of the summer, Capri might be nice as night but during the day it's crowded and I don't know if that's going to be a fit with your idea of quiet time.

Even in high season, you might do Caesar Agustus in Annacapri to get away from the crowds and relax. If it's not high season, then I think La Palma might be very nice for you. It doesn't have the best view but it's very spa like and enclosed. You could certainly have low key pool time there.

If it were me, I'd do Capri if not the summer months, but Amalfi if it is. Positano, Ravello and Praiano all have some nice hotels to get you away from the crowds. Check previous posts for more info, there's lots of it already here for more specific hotel info.
