Honey Honey how you thrill me, aha....

OK, so that sounded weird. I am listening to ABBA greatest hits Vol II right now, as well as reading a book on foods in France...

I am in quest of Miel de Narbonne, or Rosemary Honey, which allegedly is either rare or impossible to find, if you believe this book. Has anyone ever heard of it, seen it, tasted it?

I'd also like to bring back some Miel Lavande but I think that is easy to find in Provence.... I've also heard of thyme honey... sounds interesting.

where do you go to find your honey? or other neat, local foods in Provence/Paris...

thanks y'all, later!

Beth

Beth bonsoir! My favourite food halls in Paris is "La Grande Epicerie" at Le Bon Marché department store at Sèvres-Babylone, 6th. Their choice is amazing.
Of course, you will find a lot of nice small places other than that, but there, everything is close together and you can compare products and prices.
There is also "La Maison du Miel", 24, Rue Vignon, close to the Madeleine Church, which specializes in honeys.
Of course, you will find a nice choice at Fauchon and Hédiard as well.
Enjoy Paris!

Beth, I have found the Lavender honey at Fauchon's the best as any local from the countryside. It travels easily, and depending upon where you live, it can be purchased in the US. It is incredible, but so is the local soaps made with honey, lavender and live oil etc. These also make excellent xmas gifts.

Beth, that's OLIVE OIL. I don't have a clue what live oil is. I would be afraid to use that....

Thanks Vixie!

hey, does anyone get the honey, honey reference? It is an ABBA song from maybe 20 years ago... excuse me I just looked it up in the liner notes - GULP... almost 30 years ago. (1974)

Oh my God I need a drink - I remember hearing that song on the radio.

eek!!! I'm too young to remember a song from almost 30 years ago. right??
<BR

Bethie - you probably learned it by rote as a tiny little thing. I remember being horrified to hear my beautiful little two year old daughter, as she was playing with her stuffed animals crooning: "My, My, My Sharona....."

Hi Beth! Glad you got some nice inputs!

Ring, ring, why don't you give me a call... That's ABBA too! ;-)

I think I should relisten to my ABBA's gold record some time. In 1974, when I lived in London, they won the Eurovision Song Contest with "Waterloo". That is where all begun. But incidentally, I never was an ABBA fan at that time, but now.... souvenirs, souvenirs of the good old times!

eh cher Bet', the Miel de Narbonne was mentioned in an article written by two people (husband/wife, I think) who were hunting down every French food, recipe, cooking technique, etc. to produce the all inclusive encyclopedia of French cuisine. They said they were unable to find it, old timers remembered it, but no one had seen it for years. Curious if the romarin is from Narbonne...

And is that the book you're reading, the aforementioned be-all end-all encyclopedia of French food?

Beth, I've also heard that honey is available in the Luxembourg Gardens (it's made there), I think only the last week in Sept, though, so I guess that's too late for you. But since we're on the subject, does anyone know just where in the Gardens you go to find this honey? Thanks!
