Hilton Amsterdam

Has anyone stayed at the Hilton Amsterdam? I am staying there because of Hilton points. Does anyone know how close it is to the city center and museums?
Thanks,
DJL

It's about 1.75 miles south of Dam Square - or the center of the city, with the museumplein being about halfway between the hotel and the Dam. The hotel is in a residential area and will be a long walk to most points of tourist interest so plan on taking taxis or walking to a tram stop. There is a canal on the backside of the Hilton but no water taxi serves it. If you grow tired of hoofing it you could always spend the week in bed there like John & Yoko did. Doing a websearch for "Amsterdam hotels map" you should be able to judge its location in comparison to sites and other hotels. Another search for "Amsterdam Hiton reviews" will lead to comments others have observed about the hotel and location. I have not stayed there but know where it is.

I have stayed at this Hilton and would recommend it, it is not that far and is in a nice area. I like to walk so it was a nice opportunity to see this side of the city and in the residential area behing the hotel are alot of nice restaurants with very little tourist trade, we ate at one Italian restaurant behind the hilton a number of times and the local clientel and the wait staff would recognize us after a while. You can take a cab with luggage to the train station which would be convenient.

We stayed at the Amsterdam Hilton in April 2003 for only one night. We inquired at the VVV office about a hotel booking and were offered the Hilton for 100 euros that night (no breakfast).

We had driven to Amsterdam and had parked at the Park & Ride facility at the big stadium on the outskirts of town (but quite near the Hilton). We drove from the stadium and parked in the Hilton lot (the parking fee was quite high at least 20 euros).

Our room was on the 7th floor just down the hall from where John and Yoko stayed. It was a beautiful room - very spacious and with an amazing view of the canal.

If I could get the Amsterdam Hilton for 100 euros again or if I could stay free on points, I most definitely would stay there.

A tram line runs fairly close to the hotel or taxis are available. If you do have a car, access to the ring road is excellent.

We stayed there for 6 nights on points in May 2002 and were extremely pleased. The staff was very nice and our room was spotless. It is a little out of the way, but the area was very pleasant and the tram wasn't far at all.

I really like that part of Amsterdam. Around the corner is the Cornelis Schuytstraat, with nice restaurants and shops. Christies is there too. This is where I would want to live if I were living in Amsterdam.
