Hiking to Monte Forato

Hiking to Monte Forato
I have read a little about the hike to Monte Forato starting in Fornovalasco. Has anyone actually done this hike? I am interested in hearing from those who have to determine whether or not we will make the attempt ourselves. We are active and enjoy the outdoors, but are wondering if this is something we should try to work into our itinerary.
We are staying in Montepulciano, so any input on the time it may take us to travel each way, may also be a deciding factor. I am debating a day at La Foce gardens or taking the drive out to Fornovalasco to hike up to Monte Forato.
