High tech question from a low tech guy
I'm reposting this under a new title. Hope to hear from folks. Happy Holidays, Joe

Author: Joe ([email protected])
Date: 12/21/2001, 09:08 pm
Message: So here's the deal - - I just realized that a neat stocking stuffer for my wife would be a screen saver made up of this year's vacation photos. But how do I do it? Do any of the copier, photo, computer chains make custom screen savers? And how long does it take, how expensive, etc.? I live in Silver Spring, MD so I'm within driving distance of most national chain stores. All help will be appreciated, Joe

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Author: kit ([email protected])
Date: 12/21/2001, 09:33 pm
Message: Joe,

There's some interesting shareware at customsavers.com

Great idea! I'm going to try it myself...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Author: Joe ([email protected])
Date: 12/22/2001, 10:15 am
Message: Thanks, Kit. However, given my low tech leanings and short lead time, I'm trying to find a vendor who can do this for me by COB Dec. 24th. And since it is only a stocking stuffer, I want a reasonable price. Let's see - - that means I'm looking for a specialized service, fast turn around, and bargain rates three days before Christmas. Sounds reasonable, any suggestions? Do you have a scanner? Otherwise, find someone that does have a scanner, or go to a place like Staples that has a scanner. Have the pictures scanned to a CD-ROM. They should be in jpeg format instead of bmp, as they will take up less space. Then go to settings, control panel, screen, and you can go from there to load the pictures. I don't think that Staples is that expensive.

Get them to www.webshots.com someway, then you can use them all as screen savers and wallpaper. I am using some great travel photos of somebody's from there and I ove it. Have't tried using my own but it is possible to do and its free

I too am I pretty low tech guy, but have managed to scan some of my photos and use them as my wallpaper for desktop. I change them from time to time. So nice to start up the computer and be greeted by our little group of four standing on the bridge at Giverny or on top of the Jungfrau in the snow. I am using the webshots rotating screensaver currently, having selected only pictures of places we've been -- a little better than my own shots anyway, but it seems like they're mine. I thought that on that program there might be a way to add your own photos in place of some of theirs, but not sure about that.
Patrick,
I use a free screensaver software from:

http://www.jpg.com/freestuff.html

to display my own pictures only. The screen saver comes out best if you manipulate the jpeg image to EXACTLY the pixel setting of your screen but it is not essential.
