Although a few individual trains have their own website (such as www.thalys.com just to give one example), you can research most trains, high speed or not, beginning with the rail website of the country where you will be starting - - for example www.sncf.fr (for France) or http://bahn.hafas.de (for Germany; note no "www" for this one).

And the website http://mercurio.iet.unipi.it/misc/timetabl.html has links
to the rail websites for every country in Europe.
Message: anyone know the price of trains
from paris to nice?

Visit Rail Europe’s Web site at http://www.raileurope.com/ or call them at (888) 382-7245 or fax them at (800) 432-1329. I use these numbers to get an idea of the cost, distance and time it takes to travel to each city. Rail Europe also has an information-by-fax-on-demand system.

Take a look at the French
SNCF website and you can see the prices and schedules for yourself. I took a quick look and the price for the trip from Paris to Nice on the TGV is 539 francs from Gare de Lyon. This price converts to about $77 one way, second class. The first class fare is 716 francs, or a little over $100. The address for the French rail system is:
http://www.sncf.fr/indexe.htm
This version is in English.
The Rail Europe second class ticket price for the same journey is $100. So if you buy in France you can ride first class for the same price that Rail Europe charges you for second class. I find Rail Europe to be much more expensive for most anything you purchase from it, compared with the European prices. Usually 25% higher.
