Hi R,
The THALYS, which is high-speed between Brussels and Paris is not high-speed between Amsterdam and Brussels, because the tracks haven't been upgraded.
See www.bahn.de for train schedules.

The High Speed Line
"The Netherlands is breaking new ground in the field of transport: in 2007 the country will get a connection to the European network of High Speed Lines. Ultra-fast trains with a maximum speed of 300 kilometres an hour will take travellers directly from Amsterdam to Schiphol, Rotterdam, Antwerp, Brussels and Paris. This offers significant advantages."
The Netherlands sections are scheduled to be implemented April 2007 - I couldn't see any mention of the Belgium rail connection timeline...

The pres-supposed date of April 2007 for the Thalys to be on his high-speed tracks has been postponed until '2007'. No mention of a specific month but I can see, when I drive next to the tracks, that they're far from being ready!
robynstudio, no need to take the Thalys train. The intercity train (for which no reservations are necessary) is, at this moment, as fast as the more expensive Thalys.

Thalys is NOT the same as InterCity!
On http://plannerint.b-rail.be/ you will find the timetables of all European train connections.
Fill in your departure and arrival points (Amsterdam Centraal - Brussel Centraal) and further details. In the last column (product) you can see the type of train (THA = Thalys ; IC = InterCity).
You can also check out the international section of the Dutch Railways (for tariffs) but it's in Dutch only.
