We will be in St. Petersberg via a cruise. My husband cannot walk fast and must rest after 10 minutes of walking or standing due to back and hip pain, and age. We've arranged other tours via our cruise ship. However, we need a guide who would go slowly and at our own pace at the Hermitage. This tour in particular would be difficult in a group he couldn't keep up with the rest of the people. The Hermitage is the one tour we need help with. We would hate to miss it.
Would appreciate any suggestions.
Thank you

Speak with your tour group. I was at the Hermitage last spring and a woman who could not walk far had arranged a wheel chair and one of the crew on the ship navigated the chair. You can rent ear phones at the Hermitage that will give you all the info you can handle about the exhibits. If you stayed at the museum continuously for 9 years you still would not see all exhibits
Th eHermitage is HUGE and has several very tall marble staircases that seemed kind of slippery. (I assume it has elevators in other places - but I don;t recall any places to sit down.) If I were you I would hire a private guide and have you husband take one of those foldable walkers. You don;t need to use it as a walker - but you can unfold it and use it as a seat when you want.
My mom does this now - since she's not supposed to walk so far as to get tired. So she does 8 or 9 blocks with the walker being pushed (not used) then sits down and talks to whatever neighobr is nearby for 15 minutes or so - then walks home. I know they also have foldable seats that fold up like oversize umbrellas - with a strap so you can hang it on your shoulder - but don't know how well they work.
Thanks so much. We ordered a walker and will get a private guide I think...looking into it now.
