We will be taking 2 overnight ferries in Scandinavia this summer.
Ferry from Helsinki-Stockholm
Ferry from Copenhagen-Oslo
What can we do with our luggage during the day in Helsinki and Copenhagen after we check out of the hotel (maybe 9 am?) and before we check in for the cruise (probably before 5 pm?)?
Anyone have any first hand experience with this?

Hotels usually let you store the luggage until you need it later the same day. I have done that many times. In Copenhagen (I don't know about Helsinki) there are also lockers at the central station, but that will cost you.
I have stayed in hotels all over Europe and never found a problem with leaving luggage before or after staying there. It's one of those basic services all hotels offer. A big hotel might have a special luggage room; a small hotel might put it in a cupboard or behind the reception desk.
There are also lockers at the railway stations in Scandinavian countries.
Check with the ferry line to find out what time they will accept luggage. Any hotel will hold it for you - but the ferry line may also hold it in advance, saving a rush trip back to the hotel.
Ferry companies generally don't accept luggage: you carry it on board the ship yourself.
There are luggage lockers at the ferry terminals so, if it's more convenient to go there first, you can leave it there.
