Helsinki or Estonia Cruise from Stockholm?

Jump to last reply

We really only have time to visit one of these cities on our trip and I'm having trouble determining which has more of interest to see and if we would be disappointed in the cruise to Tallin vs. Helsinki.

We originally planned to take the cruise to Helsinki since I have heard that we should not miss the cruise to Helsinki. I assume that the part not to be missed is the scenery while on the cruise but I’m not sure if that is the only don’t miss part. From the maps that I have seen it appears that the cruise to Tallin would cover much of the same area.

Although I tried to plan the trip to avoid a Friday night cruise due to the cost differential we changed the trip around a bit to avoid the Stockholm marathon and now we are going to cruise on a Friday night. The Helsinki lines are quite expensive on Friday while the new Tallik ship is quite a bit less expensive. The Tallik website notes that they added a new ship in 2004 and it appears that we would be traveling on that one.

If we take the Helsinki option I plan to book a cabin on Silja. The website has great photos of the ship but it is hard to find much info on Tallik. Are the Helsinki boats that much better?

Tallin seems more interesting to me as a destination because of the medieval center but Helsinki sounds interesting as well.

If it makes any difference in your suggestions, we would spend one night in either city and fly to Oslo the next afternoon to continue our trip in Norway.

Thank you in advance for any suggestions or information.
