help with Venice pre cruise hotels
Sept 1, 2012. 7 day greek isls and Turkey cruise; departing Venice. Need a good hotel in Venice for two days pre cruise. Want something central, but not over the top cost wise.
ALSO... am flying from NY... all flights apprear to be 1 stoppers. Any thoughts to go... via Amsterdam, Paris, Germany?
Thanks.

This place is nice,3 min from water stop San Toma. Decent place with decent food and price, close to everything yet not in total tourist paths.

you can ditch you big bags at P. Roma luggage hold and just take a small overnight bag to where ever you choose to stay. Its a short walk from P. Roma to cruise ship dock. That way your not dragging a large bag around on and off vaporetto.

I always double check recommendations with Venere. Here's their website for Venice. Venere gives you location, map and reviews. They are now partnered with TripAdvisor. it may say TripAdvisor, but it's really Venere in origin.

Last time we visited Venice we flew through Paris. Leaving aside that my bag vanished for several days at CDG before Air France found it and flew it to Venice, the airport is a pain in the... for transferring. We recently had a good experience transferring at Frankfort. Another option is to fly non-stop to Milan (if there are non-stops from JFK) and take the train to Venice.

Amsterdam would be the easiest layover.
We flew through Germany: Munich and Frankfurt, they were crazy.
Don't have the first-hand (foot? ) knowledge of Paris, but it's not the favorite here on Fodor's.

Delta has a nonstop between JFK and VCE (Marco Polo Airport, the Venice airport) four or five times a week. If you shift your travel days forward or back a day or two, you may see the possibilities.
