Help with Scotland itinerary

Hi All,
I am hoping to get some feedback on my first draft itinerary please.
My wife and I (both in our late fifties) will fly into EDI on Fri. Sept 2nd and fly out of GLA Sept 18th.
Our plans are....

- 4 nights in Edinburgh with one day as a day trip to St Andrews.

- Day 5, pickup rental car at airport and stay that night in Kirkcudbright ( my wife's castle)
passing through Wanlockhead and Leadhills ( I lived there for as a wee boy)

- Day 6 head to Luss for an overnight stop. with a stop in Ayr along the way.

- Day 7 head for a 2 night stay in Oban. Passing through Inveraray....

- Day 9 leave Oban for Portree via bridge for 4 nights.

- Day 13 leave Portree for overnight stay in Glencoe ( via Ferry?? not sure of this yet, we
may go back over the bridge)

- Day 14 head to GLA to return car and head to Glasgow for our remaining 3 nights.

Does this seem feasible?

Trying to keep the long drives to a minimum, I know the drive from Oban to Portree will be long.

Please give me your thoughts, it would be much appreciated.

Sorry if it is a little long.

Luss doesn't really have anything to recommend it and an overnight there is a night too many. I'd stay in Inverary instead and then onto Oban. Again Oban doesn't really warrant 2 nights. It's a small place with it's "business" solely due to the ferry port these days.

It's a shame that you can't find a little time for Mull. Tobermory is IMO nicer than Portree.

I think it's pretty OK. I, too, prefer Tobermory to Portree; but I HUGELY prefer Skye to Mull. It's all a question of taste. If you're going to go to Skye over the bridge, reconcile yourself to the fact tha the journey is the joy. Otherwise take the shorter route through Mallaig or Glenelg. Still pretty, but shorter.Mnd you, unless I were climbing mountains 4 days might be a tad long.

If you want to be on Loch Lomond, maybe Tarbet? or Inverbeg?

Personally, I wouldn't bother with Ayr.

Mostly OK. I'd skip the night at Luss and only stay 2 nights in Oban if you included a day trip to Mull/Iona. If not, then one night in Oban is plenty.

Re Skye, I'd definitely take the ferry one way and the bridge the other -- (doesn't really matter which to and which from the isle) . That way you can see both Eilean Donan and maybe Plockton AND Glenfinan and Morar and maybe Neptune's staircase.

If you do cut one night from Luss and Oban that would give you 2 'extra nights which I'd use perhaps near Callander. That would be a base to see Stirling, Inchmahome, the Trossachs, etc. then an easy drive to GLA, drop the car and take public transport into Glasgow.

Thanks all for the quick replies!

Inverary might be a better stop since we were going to visit the castle. I have looked quickly at accomadations and they seem to be cheaper than what I was finding in Luss.
We are planning to take the West Coast tour to Mull/ Iona
that is why the 2 nights.

4 nights on Skye..too long?
Do you think 3 would give us enough time?

We hope to visit
Fairy pools, Quiraing, Dunvegan castle, Neist Point
as well as Elgol and a bot to Loch Coruisk

IMO/IME 3 nights on Skye is good IF you get to the island by early to mid afternoon on the first day (which you can easily manage if you are driving up from Oban) That would give you 3 full days (half a day on arrival, 2 full days and then about half a day at the end before driving on to Glencoe)

Oban to Mallaig will take about 2.5 hours plus a stop at Glenfinan, maybe 30 mins. longer via Kyle of Lochalsh.
