I need help with the first five-days of a 3 1/2 weeks trip in England and Wales (June into July). We'll be traveling these 5 days before settling into a cottage we've rented in Shropshire. I need help organizing the days and finding a place to base.

Here's the itinerary so far, which is the "wish-list" of myself, DH, and 19-yo DD.

Day 1 Monday Fly into Heathrow/pick up car
Windsor/Park/Changing of guard in town or at Castle/State apts
Oxford/tour of Christ Church
Stonehenge/Wiltshire museum/Avebury
Salisbury Cathedral/tower tour?
Glastonbury -hike Tor, see Well
Cardiff/St Fagan's museum/Llandaff Cardiff Ghost walk
Brief stop off in Rhondda Valley (visit relatives)
Where to stay - beautiful/historical things to see on way to Shropshire??

Day 1 - 6 is "mushy" because I'm not sure how much time to allow for these things? and where to base? We'd prefer not to move to new lodging each day if there is a base that makes sense--and for which days? We prefer cozy B and B's rather than upscale hotels. History and character win over amenities--rural or semi-rural location is fine. Budget approx 120 Pounds per night for lodging/breakfast--and much less would be appreciated!

Also, DD wants to see Windsor Castle which makes most sense on Day 1 but isn't open until Day 2 and the apartments not 'til Day 3. What could we see/do in Windsor when the castle is closed? would that be worth it? see the grounds and move on to Oxford on Day 1? Is there any other time on Day 3 or 4 that it would make sense to go back to Windsor? DD is flying out of Manchester on way home so we won't be coming back this way later.
