We are going to stay at Lake Bled for two nights on 27th & 28th June and then drive to Ljubljana for a night. Any advice on a hotel in the centre of the city? We would prefer to park the car and walk around and only have one day and night before we head off to Plitvicka in Croatia. We dont want apartment or caravan park accommodation, hostels or private homes but rather a hotel with full facilities. Anyone stayed at the Grand Union? It looks as though it has history and atmosphere.

Hi! Ljubljana is really small and lovely, so any hotel in the 'center' is central. I haven't stayed in the Grand Union, but passed there and it seems nice and for sure couldn't be more central! It's right of the main square of Ljubljana with the pink church and the 3 bridges.
Yes, Grand Union is the best location and best hotel. We missed out on it but did walk thru it and my wife had her hair done there--best haircut she has had in years.
I stayed at the Grand Union in 1998, shortly I think after it was renovated. As I recall, the hotel rooms had been so renovated that they didn't have much atmosphere; bet you could figure that out from pictures on the web. But I would recommend the hotel overall, for general polish and for its great location. Try taking the couple-of-minutes walk down to see the big pink church at night.
Another nearby business-class hotel is the Hotel Slon (I think that means "elephant," oddly). I believe it's less polished than the Union, or was then, but it did have a very nice pastry shop on the ground floor that was excellent for sugar and people-watching.
I didn't have a car, so don't know if either of these have parking facilities. If so, they weren't obvious.
