Help With Itinerary!
We are a family of 4 looking to visit France.
We want to spend 2 days in Paris. One day to see Versailes, one day to see the d day beaches and then spend 2 days to see the French riviera?
I would like to hear any suggestions on what I should miss, how I can travel between the cities . Etc.
Thanks in advance.

Double Oh Dear.
You are trying to pack close to three weeks of touring into one. The question is not so much what will you miss, but what will you see. Some suggestions beyond cutting the itinerary:
1. Hire a guide in Paris that will give you a whirlwind 1 day tour, Michael Osman is great and his fee is very reasonable.... he can also guide you through Versailles. Plan to do nothing on the second day in Paris....seriously, soak in Paris and maybe follow up on one thing of interest you learned from a guide.
2. use a commercial tour service (such as Viatour)for a one day trip to the Normandy beaches from Paris.... it will be a long day.
3. Pick one city on the Riviera and either fly or take a high speed train...Nice perhaps.
4. Expect that you will be exhausted at the end.
5. And if you are coming from the US, arriving early in Paris the first day, keep your expectations low for touring, your family will be tired and given the itinerary you'll need to rest a bit.

I, personally, would not go on a whirlwind tour such as this ever. Pull up a map of France and see how far apart the distances are. I'd dumb down the amount of traveling.
Versailles. In order to see it but not take a whole day, go early. Walk the grounds before the Palais opens. Very serene and not crowded at all. I've done that a couple of times. Spend the rest of the afternoon / evening soaking up Paris. Dress appropriately.
Nice's beaches are rocky. Go west of the Cap d'Antibes and you will find sandy beaches. Try Juan Le Pins, about 10 minutes from Nice.
Or, you could go to Biarritz, a nice beach town on the Atlantic Coast. It's closer than Nice.

In the interests of efficiency, you might consider this:

kellie,
you havem't made it clear just how many days you've got [are the 2 days in paris EXTRA to Versaiiles and the D day beaches?] but you already got some good advice on the other forum.
basically you are trying to cram a quart into a pint pot. i would suggest basing yourselves in Paris for the entire time with a day trip to Versailles.

what apres said. it will take you at least 1/2 day to get to Nice - so you'll only have 1 and 1/2 days there - hardly time to have a base. if you read some of the Paris threads here, you'll see that many people spend far longer than 6 days in Paris without going anywhere else.
plus if you are travelling with your family, things are going to take longer and be more stressful.
IMHO you will have a much better time if you pick EITHER Paris or Nice.
