We'll be changing planes in Munich and have only about 50 minutes between flights. I believe we one comes in at the "H" gates and the other leaves at the "G" gates (or the other way around).

Does that sound like a problem as far as making our gate on time. I have looked at an online layout of the airport, and it looks as if the gates are on different levels, but it's hard to get a feel for how far apart they are and how difficult it is to get from one area to another.

What do you think. Is it fairly easy to navigate from one area to another? Too difficult? Thanks.

If your arrival is on time, you'll probably be fine. H and G are on different levels, and there is an immigration checkpoint between them (H is the area for non-Schengen flights and G is the area for intra-Schengen flights). I've never encountered much of a wait there, but that will depend on how many flights arrive at the same time. It also is possible that one of your flights may use buses to/from the terminal - I think we had that for our departing flight the last time through there. It's always a good idea to know if there are later flights to your final destination (Lufthansa, I assume) should you miss your connection. We missed our connection the last time through MUC, but our incoming flight was 3 hours late. LH was very accommodating.

All in all, though, I think T2 at Munich is a nice terminal and easy to get around.

I assume you are flying with Lufthansa or one of the Star Alliance partner airlines as this relatively new terminal is dedicated to their use.Yes, the terminal has 2 levels.

The terminal is easy to use with good signage. Generally 50 minutes should be just enough time to make a connection.
A problem can occur if you must go through passport control and then another security check- example connecting to a flight to the USA.
They do have expedited lines if your flight is leaving within a specified time look for them.

Was in a similar situation recently. 50 min to change but plane was 15 min late. Still had no problems but did have to move quickly, the H and G gates are not that close together.
No line at immigration but line at security. But they are very efficient. Bus to plane was already boarding when I arrived at the gate and left 5 min after I boarded.
50 min is doable but you must really hustle.

Consider printing out a map of the airport, or just snip the map out of the back of your inflight magazine, so you'll know for sure where you're heading. The Munich airport is relatively easy to maneuver. I had no trouble with a 50-minute connection between Lufthansa and Air Dolomiti this spring.

Thanks all. The originating flight is Lufthansa out of JFK. One one of the connecting flights is Air Dolomiti, so the comment regarding that situation was helpful, too.

I did look at following flights, in case we miss the original, and there are others a couple of hours later. So, missing the first flight wouldn't be the end of the world.

Your comments seem to indicate that there's a good chance of making it, and I can live with that. I was worried about security and customs, but from what you say, they seem to have that figured out and expedited.
