Help with final 6 days of Norway itinerary
I will be in Norway solo for a few weeks in May. I have most of my itinerary finalized with the exception my final 6 days. I'm most interested in beautiful scenery and hiking.
I plan to go from Balestrand on the boat from Bergen on May 5 and then stay in Balestrand the night of the 5th and 6th. From there I plan to do the Flam Railway and fjord cruise on May 7. I would like to do Ulvik too, but not sure how to get there or if that is taking on too much for the remaining few days. I have done lots of research about the area, but I'm still stuck.
I need to be back in Oslo late on May 9. Any suggestions you may have would be appreciated. Thanks!

Fopr Ulvik take the bus from Bergen or Voss - https://www.skyss.no/nn-NO/Rutetider...nnherad-Voss1/
In May you could do the Hardangerfjord in a Nutshell route stopping off whereever you like - http://www.norwaynutshell.com/en/exp...in-a-nutshell/
You can do the Flåm rail and Nærøyfjord ferry on your way to Oslo from Bergen (Norway in a Nutshell) - more effective than taking 2 return trips. Alternatively you could do a circular tour Flåm - Myrdal (Flåm rail) - Voss (rail) - Gudvangen (bus) - Flåm (Nærøyfjord ferry). In early May none of this needs to be booked in advance.
Save money on Bergen-Oslo (or Myrdal-Oslo if you do NiN route) by booking 90 days in advance at - https://www.nsb.no/en/

Dyoll, in looking at the links, can you do multiple days and get on and off if you do the Hardangerfjord in a Nutshell or NIN routes? It appears you have to do it in 1 or 2 days and stay in the offered hotels? Is this the case?

I just checked into renting a car from Bergen to Oslo. The rates are very good and there are some great Airbnbs in Ulvik and Balestrand. Maybe a home base and the freedom of a car would be a better way to go. Thoughts?

NiN tours are self-guided, no group, tours on public transport - you can do whatever parts you want, stay where you want for as long as you want. No need to book in May - just pay the fare to the driver/conductor. You can buy a pass from the Tourist Offices in Bergen which will save you paying each leg yourself. Note that you can't hop off and on buses/trains without buying new tickets - however services are limited so this isn't usually a possibility anyway. Just follow the NiN timetables.
Are you sure you hire quote includes the one way charge? - usually this is quite high in Norway. Having a car on the standard NiN route between Oslo and Bergen is a disadvantage as you either skip the Flåm rail and Nærøyfjord ferry or have to do return trips on these. Consider doing the NiN by rail and just hiring a car in Bergen for a round trip touring Hardangerfjord and possibly Sognefjord - Balestrand area - though be careful about trying to include too wide an area in a short time if what you want to do is hike.
