Help with Dalmatian Coast Trip

We are traveling with another couple to Croatia in July. Unfortunately, due to other obligations we can only spend 6 days in Croatia. We are flying from the US to London Gatwick (have business there after the Croatia adventure.) We want to fly to Dubrovnik and fly out of Split, spending the days we have in those two cities plus Korcula and Hvar. I was thinking of the following itinerary:

Sunday afternoon, arrive in Dubrovnik
Monday and Tuesday--explore Dubrovnik
Wednesday a.m. --ferry to Korcula
Wednesay afternoon and night-Korcula
Thursday afternoon--ferry to Hvar
Thursday evening and Fiday in Hvar
Friday evening--ferry to Split
Friday evening thru Sunday pm in Split
Sunday afternoon--fly back to London

Please comment on the itinerary. Is it doable? Overly ambitious? Also, we are having a very hard time finding reasonable fares from Gatwick to Croatia. Tried Europe by Air, all the major sites I know and am unable to find anything for less than $500 round trip. Is this about right?

Thanks for any help you can provide!

Hi! Can't comment on your itinerary since I havent been yet. (if my son gets his passport renewed in time, we'll be there end of May). but.. have you tried Europe by Air Flight Pass? http://www.europebyair.com/eba/map/default.jsp
They have flights London (LGW?) to DBV for $99ow... It sounds like a great deal, you do have to purchase them before you go, and they mail you paper tickets. Worth checking out.

Your itinerary is eminently doable.

The fare problem may be your wanting to leave from LGW. Most of the budget airlines seem to leave from places like Stanstead or Luton rather than a major international airport, but I suspect that the cost/hassle of doing the transfer may not be worth the cost saving.

You can book Gatwick to Split or Gatwick to Dubrovnik (via Split) through Europe by Air

From: London-Gatwick, GB (LGW)
To: Split, HR (SPU)
Dep:08 Jun 04:45 PM
Arr:08 Jun 08:00 PM
CROATIA AIRLINES 495

From: Split, HR (SPU)
To: Dubrovnik, HR (DBV)
Dep: 08 Jun 08:50 PM
Arr: 08 Jun 09:25 PM
CROATIA AIRLINES 657

US$198 Going and $99 coming back from Split is $297 pp round trip.

We used Europe by Air and it was great. You do have to pay a "fee" at the airport when you submit your voucher for your ticket, but I don't remember it being prohibitive.

Your itinerary is perfectly do-able. Have a great time. Croatia is awesome.
