We have just been advised that we have to take demi pension rates at more that 1800 ff per room after faxing us availability at 550ff for a standard room on the 30 & 31 December 2000. We are taking our teenagers and wanted them to have the experience of a stay in a chateau. We are in The Loire for only 2 days so we wanted something central to Chambord and Azay - le -Rideau.

Sophie-I have a recommendation for a wonderful bed & breakfast in Amboise--Le Vieux Manoir. Although not a chateau, it is a beautiful manor house which has been extensively renovated and exquisitely decorated. We spent four nights there in September and loved it. The owner, Gloria, is great fun and full of helpful information. If you're interested you should check out their website www.le-vieux-manoir.com. Good luck.
Dear Ann
Thank you for your help. I have tried emailing them but no reply as yet. Do they live in the manoir? Does any one know anything about the univers or Le Blason/
30 years ago I stayed at the Chateau du Gue Pean near MontRichard. I'm sure I found out about it from Fodor's. You might check to see if they still take guests.
My sister and her husband stayed at the Relais des Landes, a 3-star hotel in Ouchamps, very well-located for touring the chateax, and very near to Blois. They loved it. It is a 17th manor house in a 30-acre park and part of teh Relais du Silence family of hotels. Very reasonable and the food is excellent.

Very much enjoyed our stay at "La Villa Medicis" just outside Blois. If I remember, it's described in Fodor's Rivages Guide to French B&Bs. Really a very small hotel. Fabulous breakfasts, charming, helpful hosts. 5 minutes by car along the Loire to Blois. Easy access to Chambord.
