Help with a 2 week Sicilian Itinerary
Finalizing our two week itinerary and could use a little feedback.
As of now the game plan is:
2 nights in Aeolian Islands (not decided between Vulcano or Lipari - we dive and it would be really cool to get a dive or two in!)
2 nights in Taoromina
3 nights in Siracusa
either 2 nights in Ragusa or 1 night in Ragusa and 1 night in Agrigento. From what I've been reading, Agrigento can be seen in a half day - but will it do it justice? Conversely we've heard amazing things about Ragusa. Big decision here!
3 nights in Western Sicily… Researching some past posts on this one - need to decide between Trapani, Selinunte and Erice. They all seem to have their pluses!
and the last 3 nights in Palermo!
Any insight or thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Half a day in Agrigento was enough for me. Since you'll be there overnight, see the temple in the dark. The approach, watching them lit up first on one side of the car and then the other is amazing. You can't go into them after dark but they are beautiful from afar.
I would give Palermo more than 2 days (3 nights).

Re: Agrigento: As I recall, I spent about 5 hours in the archeological district, another 1.5 or 2 hours at the museum, and maybe an hour walking around the maze of narrow streets and stairs of the medieval city. I spent a night in Agrigento in a place from which I could see the temples lit at night - magical!
Depending on how you plan to travel, you can see Selinunte (and Segesta) on the way from Agrigento to Palermo.
Do NOT miss the cathedral in Monreale! You may need to add a night to your time in Palermo.

Lucky you, headed for Sicily!
We began in Taormina and ended in Palermo. I loved it all.
My thoughts:
Ragusa Ibla is very pretty but felt a bit like a stage set, preferred livelier Modica as a place to stay.
Stay on Ortigia in Siracusa.
We wound up shortchanging Agrigento, but after seeing the site I think a half day would be sufficient. Would only stay in the area if the hotel had a view of the temples.

I'm with mamcalice and kja--don't miss Monreale. I think is OK for Palermo but it depends on what's on your list to visit there and FROM there.
We took a bus to Agrigento from Palermo and had time to walk around the upper town which we found to be very attractive. Can you combine Agrigento with Ragusa? I'm not sure of the distance between the two.
Can't wait to read about your trip.
