Help with 13 days stay in French and Italian Riviiera

Appreciate information on sights and budget hotel with good location in Nice and Genoa. Is 4 days enough for Genoa? Plan to have Nice as our base in French Riviera.

What is your nightly budget in euros? How many of you are there? What time of year?

To make useful recos it helps if we have a little info.

thank you for your reply, nytraveler.
my friend and i are budgeting 30-40 euros per nite. travel dates are dec 26-january 10.

we are planning to stay 4 days in genoa, and then nice and marseilles. is day trip sufficient to see monaco?

what are the must-sees in each? can we do cruise from nice or another area?

is there public transport in these places? what area should we choose for our hotel/s?

thank you for whatever info you can give.

Haven't been in Genoa, but yes, Nice is a very large city and has a bus system. But if you stay in an area not too far from the sea (which I'd recommend), you can walk to a lot of things. YOu could look between the sea and bd Victor Hugo, for example, or not too far from Place Massena or the Promenade des Anglais. Hotels in Nice are fairly cheap, you can get something for that rate, in fact, other than a hostel (I sure hope you mean 30-40 euro PER PERSON).

here's a good choice, 2* not too far from the beach, 70 euro for a twin room at that time of year http://www.hotel-danemark.com/en/

Don't know your interest in MOnaco, but given its wealth, I would think a day trip might be the best idea on your budget. You can easily get there by train from Nice in a short time. I don't know about cruises from Nice, probably are some.

Thank you so much Christina for your input. I was previously looking into staying near Promenade des Anglais for couple of days and stay in central for the rest of the trip in Nice.

Our budget is 30-40 euros per person.

We can just do day trip in Monaco.

What are the not to be missed sights in Nice so we can plan where to stay?

Would also like to make a day trip to Marseilles from Nice. Or is it worthwhile to stay for a night or two in Marseilles? What are the must sees there?

Looking for best place to spend new year's eve in French or Italian Riviera also.

Many thanks
